why is jhope not as popular as jimin?

  • Jimin might appeal visually more and he has more charms

  • cus Jimin has so many fanboys cus he has that soft feminity when performing that attracts lots of gyus

  • I shared my views in previous post u can take a look at it. In my opinion obviously visuals do play a role because kpop focuses too much on visuals but since debut era maknae line had more stans because they had that "goofy relatable idol like " personalities and did more interactions with fans than others (vlives and better fan service etc). Jhope also had that super extra personality but don't get me wrong it sometimes looked really fake. And Tbh individual popularity difference isnt even much now.

Jungkook isn't exactly goofy but jin and jhope are.V has a fanclub made before debut when they released his teaser picture.

  • Interesting because I think what makes BTS “authentic” to people is that they have self producing underground rappers, and I’ve seen on Reddit most fans said they prefer BTS hip hop songs, yet the rap songs don’t do as well as the pop songs in streaming?

Most ARMYs don't really stan them for "self producing music". Even BTS knows this pretty well. If that were really the case, Dynamite & PTD would've been boycotted by fans (there was still an uproar when Dynamite was announced, but 90% were okay with it).

Most of them stan for the easy-on-the-ear music, performances & visuals. If you've noticed all the maknae line members fit the fans' standard very well - good visuals, great dancers. And they have good vocal colours, which is definitely appreciated in pop music. This is applicable everywhere in kpop (itzy is the greatest example).

If you're wondering why the hyung line isn't that popular, you would notice they lack in one of categories (I'm not trying to project what I feel about this, but instead how others perceive it).

Jin is considered visually attractive according to most people, but his lack of dancing/stage presence doesn't make him stand out during performances. He could be very talented in singing, but fans want dance first. Not to mention, V already fills the "god-tier visual" position. So most visual fans would go towards V who doesn't only look amazing but has a crazy amount of stage presence as well.

As for the rap line, it's clearly their looks which play a huge role here (I do think they're visually appealing as well but not everyone sees it this way). The vocal line's visuals dominate the rap line's looks by a huge margin, so the rap line is obviously at a disadvantage. In groups like Stray Kids & BigBang where their self producing rappers are popular bc they're considered equally/more visually attractive compared to their co-members.

But lately, you can see the hyung line isn't that underrated anymore. So it's not like they don't have any appeal at all. Jin gets praised a lot for his visuals. The rap line makes the whole concert go on fire, the moment they perform their subunit songs (like Tear & Ddaeng).

  • I agree with some of this but i'd add people stan bts for their rap too+some people do like them for their self-producing abilities & i disagree where u said self producing member in skz are equally or more attractive than the others..

  • the maknaes are generally a lot more popular than the hyung line, jimin has more boyish charms that a lot of girls would like

  • He is not considered as attractive.

  • It might have something to do with their images. Jimin has more of a flirty but fragile image which is the more sought after fantasy.

  • Part of it is probably personality. J-Hope’s overly bubbly personality turned me away at first (but has since grown on me). Jimin had always been a little more low-key and charming.
