Which company typically has the best overall quality in terms of packaging, design, build quality, minimal defects etc?
this is so different all across the board.
packaging and design, build quality- either SM or YG. they've found their standard sizes for albums etc. (with the one exception of the non-case version of Red Velvet's Queendom, it was unnecessarily big.) honestly peak production years for them was 2016 and 2017 they had album design down to a tee but they definitely haven't gone off the rails or anything.
JYP variates in album size too much for my liking + i find the packaging to be a little wasteful (Twice's Taste of Love for example, great design but could've absolutely gone without that outer sleeve). however, i've found JYP albums to have minimal defect, i usually never have to worry about shit going wrong or arriving weird etc.

exactly like this! i usually have separate binders for separate groups but for soloists or signed albums that i buy that come with pcs, i put them in one big binder!
for example: loona, red velvet, twice (selling collection so not so much), g-idle, and bts have their own binders, they are separated in the binders by era and not by member. IU, taeyeon, tiffany, chungha, t-ara, sonamoo belong to one big binder!

I was thinking of doing something like that so every day I can just like flip through my binder books and keep my photocards organized.
But so far, I've only bought 2 kpop products with photocards in them (Taste of Love and Yes, I am Jihyo) so I'm not going to be doing that for a long time.

Nice, thats more detailed response than I expected. Interesting that in your experience you feel album packaging is going backward to a degree compared to 2016/17., I would have assumed they got more in line with what fans want as time went on, but I geuss not.

it definitely varies from person to person when it comes to preference. JYP has sized down the albums nicely more recently with Twice (they used to be huge?!) so that's a plus in my book. But yeah np!

if you're just starting out or not planning to collect, i would definitely recommend a mini binder! i have three small ones and they're glittery transparent plastic and omg they're so cute. i use them for photocards i adore and love taking everywhere with me etc. or membership photocards or holographic photocards!
