Don't think we will anytime soon. Kpop will never be mainstream outside east Asia, it will always be niche and being niche people who get tired can be replaced easily
Nope. Kpop is way more experimental than mainstream pop music. You can find mixture of lots of different genres from kpop music. Genre switches are amazing. The beat & melody changes are very unexpected, the sound is very unorthodox. The best examples are here:

Some K-Pop songs are experimental but most of them are just generic pop songs. Also experimenting does not always work, some songs sound like shit (I know music is subjective, but really...)
Different taste, I guess.
I mean even in the list that are supposed to show the taste of ifans, there are so many songs I don't like at all. And I am an ifan.
Similarly there might be Koreans who don't like the songs that are popular there.
Maybe Korean actually understands the lyrics and emotions vs just the sound and vibing of international listeners..

This is top 50 best kpop songs of 2020 based on redditors votes I believe. Among those 50 only a few really charts in korea. Most of these songs rank high in another place like billboard and dazed too. From this we can tell that there are huge difference in taste from international and korean audiences. What may be the reasons?
