When big 3 privilege started with each company

    2. This is such a REACH. (6) 100%

With SM it started with EXO

With JYP it started with Miss A

With YG it started with Winner (tho I understand if people say 2Ne1)

Edit: The privilege of good exposure is what I’m saying.

With this I’m saying groups that debuted before this groups didn’t really experience the big 3 privilege. It was the groups prior Ti debut that help really build the company to the status they are at.

  • Miss A was soooo mistreated, and their music was way ahead of it's time. They were one of the first in your face feminist groups, I am sad they were not more successful and kept getting put on hiatus because of JYP.

I’m mostly talking about upon debut thier debut was pretty big and that’s probably because they were the GG after the wonder girls

  • hmm i think big 3 privilege in SM definitely started with exo, but i cannot agree with miss a. even though they had wonder girls as a predecessor who essentially built JYP into a gg empire, the group internally was a mess. they had few music releases and disbanded very early and it was clear that jyp was desperate for success so they took suzy's popularity and ran with it instead of building the careers of fei min and jia. i don't even think the girls are even friends with suzy because their conditions were so difficult.

my point is, those girls struggled, and though they had a couple solid hits that doesn't mean they got those hits with help, because judging from their individual brands they got their on their own with sheer talent and suzy's hype that she worked for.

....and YG was definitely winner LMAO

  • They all built their relationship within this industry way earlier than these second gen examples. Second gen were more of a consolidation period for them. SM probably during first gen. At least the public were already aware of SM. YG and JYP had reputation of hitmakers.

Privilege isn't just about brand recognition and knowhow. Privilege starts with building connections and people like LSM did that very early on. It's easier to have good exposure if your connections can facilitate that. He basically shaped early Kpop. He may annoyingly boast, but he isn't lying.

I imagine with YG with being part of Seo Taiji and Boys opened lot of doors for him after retirement. He built a reputation even before Big Bang. JYP also probably built his positions very early on as well.

So for YG and JYP I'd say early second gen for them and SM mid to late 1st gen for SK public. For international public, it would be different, but I think establishing a foothold with the Korean public is very important for that to build an international recognition.
