Gfriend can redebut under a new company right? And have rights to all their discography?

I think that GOT7 got very lucky that JYP is kinda afraid of them tbh, I do not know what that group has on JYP himself but he always seems scared to mess with them. Gfriend sadly does not seem to have that leeway of being able to intimidate or overthrow their company.
If they did sign with another company under their name I could see it easily becoming an Shinhwa type situation where they have to fight for the rights after the company had said they were not going to do anything with the name and the company trademarks it so they can sell it to another company if they want, while letting the group believe they won't have to pay for the name only to be backstabbed.

No. Source music blocked them and copyrighted the name before they left the company. They could form under a different name though. Think Highlight and BEAST. That may not hold up in court but they did it.

Source Music was very very aware of that GFriend ideally would like to do and they trademarked it for a reason so I like I said above I am worried they may not be able to or will have to deal with a lot of BS to do so.

If I were GFriend I would reform under a new name, go back to concepts they like and leave the past as is. If Source don't allow them to play their old songs live it won't look good. If I was JYP I would sign them up, he loves girl groups knows what to do and the backing of his company could take them even higher.
That is if the members actually want to continue as a group and they haven't had enough...

Oh when Got7 disbanded i was reading comments that since the Shinhwa case; companies don't have rights over the group name or their songs once they disband. That's why i thought got7 redebuted as got7.

Sadly that is false the companies can still retrademark the name as they founded the groups and if they do it before the group does as they are leaving it can block them from using it. Cube did it to Beast, SM to both Shinhwa, HOT, SNSD and SES (the latter three did not end up doing anything but reunions through SM because of it), and now it seems Source has done it to GFriend. I mean JYP recently retrademarked the Wonder Girls name even It took Hyuna up until last year to get the rights to her solos under Cube and she responded by immediately posting them ad free to her Youtube channel. She still does not have the rights to her written songs for 4Minute

Oh thanks for detailed reply. it makes sense i guess since groups are a product of their company.

The strange thing is that T-ara won in court the right to use their name against there former company. A bit strange to be honest....

I think what JYPE did in Got7 case was transfer ownership of the name to the members and the trademark is still in place. The trademark makes it so that a random person can't make money on the name as it is still trademarked but just not owned by JYPE any more. Otherwise I could in fact go to the trademark association and trademark Got7 by myself and then claim that they are infringing on my trademark and get royalties even though I have nothing to do with the original group.

They do though. That's also why Jaebeom had to change his stage name (he was the only member still using one). They also can't use their old logos, the old group social media accounts (Bambam flat out said he can't use the GOT7 VLive channel anymore), and while they will be able to perform their past discography in concert, they will not be able to do any kind of selling of concert DVDS, live albums, or even performing them together on TV unless they work out a deal with JYP. (Also their past discography is basically dead because I honestly don't see JYP restocking any of it now that they're gone.)
Basically Jaebeom has spent months studying copyright and usage rights specifically so GOT7 can continue on. He has said that even though they left the company wished them well. It's very possible that they were able to work out a deal for the name GOT7 as long as they don't use any logos or make reference to JYP's GOT7.
I really don't see any group doing that GOT7 did unless they leave on extremely good terms with their company.

hmmm maybe mbk is already in problems they don't want to spend on court case. They are concentrated on their new boygroup. Also when the scandal truth was revealed and it showed how company didn't stand by right person it swayed general opinion against the company so they didn't want to bring more negative attention on themselves.

it's nice to see Got7 left on good terms with jyp. So many kpop fans have started hating on jyp the man ever since got7 disbanded. Making funny edits of him.

Well, it went to court and the members won. A bit odd.
