    How will this affect charts?

  • Genie and Bugs need to quit fooling around with these half assed measures and just join Flo/Melon by deemphasizing zombie streaming. Make their charts completely UL based or a mixture of streams and ULs. I hate seeing these crusty trotists and balladeers flood the charts with their rehashed dreck because of zombie streaming.

You mean ajummas zombie stream too? Kpop's got competition 😁😅

  • Domestic platforms in Korea are hemorrhaging users anyway. They're just putting a bandaid on it. While Genie is 2nd in marketshare, they're still losing users and the actual number of users that use Genie, or Melon for that matter, is quite low.

As labels are de-emphasizing chart success in Korea and placing more importance on fandoms and physicals as well as chasing after bigger markets than Korea to make more money, it's only going to get worse for Korean charts. Labels are not going to make music that they think will be "GP" friendly and make what is popular with international fans.

The only platforms that have made modest gains is FLO and VIBE, but that's because they have a better payment structure and it's cheaper to use.

Youtube Music is making the most gains in Korea. And once Spotify becomes cheaper to use in Korea, they'll probably see an huge boost.

Things will get worse before they get better for Melon and Genie.

  • There goes the fandom buying campaigns.

Other platforms should also follow. And Flo should also stop the practice of companies adding these coupons to albums, which also manipulates charts.

  • There goes the neighborhood.

Kpop will be one giant blob of sameness chasing international trend on international platforms.

    No more local flavor.

One big giant boring freeway of generic "international music".

  • its probably just the pandemics impact. since money is an rlly important and hard to earn rn, i think ppl would rather buy daily essentials than to purchase music streaming passes..but yeah melon has been losing users since 2018, and mnet and olleh's merge with genie just made it worse
