If you know about clothing brands, I think they are easy to spot. I have a roommate from China with very expensive clothing, but to me they just looked like normal clothes, it never occurred to me it was designer fashion until someone else pointed out his $500 trousers.

well depends on the environment but outside of professional settings then i would say no

in my city u can tell by the handbag a woman is carrying or the shoes a man is wearing

maybe for old country club guys, sure. The younger people mostly wear casual streetwear, say, like pacsun, or stuff from the usual top athletic brands. Whatever's 'trendy' I guess.
