Everyone already said everything but I would also like to point out how we often get silenced when we ask for better treatment by SOME other kpop stans. The members themselves shaded the company and talked about how they've been treated by SM, but some kpop fans still insist EXO-Ls are whinning for nothing. When the members publicly call out their company, it means they're obviously not satisfied with it.
It's always the non fans that are the loudest in shutting us up. It's completely natural to want the best for your faves in term of promotions, but why is it a problem when EXO-Ls do it ?

EXO started gaining a lot of international fans around 2015-2017, where I think they were at the peak. Having a world tour was the most logical next step, yet EXO never had a proper world tour. Imagine being one of the biggest kpop group and not having a proper world tour.
EXO were just never pushed to to their fullest potential, and SM just shoved them on the sideline when they were still at their peak.
And the US tour EXO did felt like it wasn't planned correctly by SM, exo'luxion and exordium combined had 6 stops compared to NCT's 9 stops in 2019. You can say that "tHe WeSt IsN'T eXo'S mArKeT" or you could just accept that SM's the devil
At that time I also remember that a lot of American EXO-Ls couldn't go because the concert dates were on Tuesday or Wednesday

Oh god where do I even start...
I absolutely hate SM with such passion, I only tolerate them because they debuted my favs
The problem with SM is that they don't know how to manage their groups. They have so many talented and amazing groups. Probably to many for them to handle. Music wise I like what SM does with Exo. They have some good producers.
But
Sm entertainment has mistreated EXO for many years. Their Album sales are high. They contribute so much to the company's profits, but this clownery of a company spends no money over promotions, and some other activities that other SM artist have.
Since 2016 they have atleast one comeback every year. Latest Obsession in 2019. Other than that SM will just drop details few days before. Which is ridiculous.
Sm also plans Exo's comeback schedule, music show stages, etc. very late and they barely get a week or two for some lackluster promotions.
EXO SC deserves so much better. They literally had ZERO promotions. They really did them dirty.
Also the fact that chanyeol, who is so passionate about his music hasn't had his solo album yet even though he wanted one and how sehun seems to be disdain. Don't even let me get started on how they treat Sehun omg
honestly i won't be surprised if either sehun or chanyeol leaves sm.
And i will definitely not forget the 3 day promo we got for City Lights. Only 3 FREAKING DAYS.
Well we even see now how well SM is treating a double million seller
Also how dare they force Baekhyun to be in SuperM. Like I don't have anything against the group but if he doesn't want to participate don't force him.Lsm the grandpa really thought he did something by scolding him for 3 hours
Also the fact that the members themselves are tired of SM's antics and ate not hiding it anymore.
But despite everything, they still stick together and that's heartwarming. SM really doesn't deserve Exo.

Honestly, there is nothing more for me to add cause you all have already summed up everything perfectly.
It's frustrating to see exactly how monumentally SM has failed EXO.

SM pulled the rug from under EXO's feet when they should've given them an extra push. EXO could have had a better run in the West than they did, heck they are doing amazing without promotion in some places of the world, and don't get me started on their career in Japan (Countdown is a waste of an album). They kept them quiet and focus on NCT instead of promoting the hell out of them while building the fandom for NCT, but apparently they needed the same people to spend money on both groups.
And as others have said, SM seems determined to make people suffer to see EXO. We get it, they are quality but they are not luxury goods, SM needs to lose some money to win some money, , putting free content out won't hurt their profits.

its ok to be frustrated, and I understand the frustaration. But its not point worrying about it too much. Especially when its not in the fans control.
All I will say is that SM need to work on their customer service.
Exo are still doing well despite all the SM misgivings.
Plus SM is doing a business, so this is how things work. Annoying I know. But then not in the fans control. So I would advice you not to be too angry about it. And these things dont effect us in the long run anayways.

Im glad they werent promoted further, because SM would have used similar tactucs they used on SuperM.
I think Exo retained their respect by not promiting in the USA.
Agree with Japan though. They should have been promoted more.
