    I'm not a fan of boy groups but I remember like 6 years ago EXO was very popular with fangirls, even some people IRL mentioned them. I remember them performing in Russia was seen as a big deal. I thought that they may had the potential to become even bigger (obviously not to BTS level) but then SM's main push has been on NCT. And it had to do with logistics, they have to manage several units on two separate countries and hence less resources would have gone to expanding EXO's success further. Maybe SM could have done more strategic global marketing for EXO. I'm not sure but I'm wondering if other's also think it was squandered potential

    NCT didn't even start getting popular until after EXO had slowed down due to enlistments.


    Also SM has had artists promoting as a whole separate subunit for China since 2008.

    I came to Kpop after EXO's peak, so i dont know what happened to EXO except the very public scandals with the Chinese members suing and claiming abuse.


    However, EXO's achievements are tremendous, i feel like they easily maxed out their potential, they're only behind a handful of groups in all time album sales. In fact, they might actually be third alltime behind only BTS and TVXQ. Now as the band is broken up due to enlistment, their soloists are printing money left and right (250k - 1M in sales). What more could SM have done with them?

    I believe SM wasted EXO's potential but it's not another groups' fault.
