I really think what happened to ITZY is unfortunate

  • As someone who’s been in kpop for a while and actually saw ITZY debut and dominate in real time, it’s almost unfathomable to see where their career has ended up.

I suppose their quick rise and fall was mainly due to there not being any big competition in the new generation, so they were able to take over by default. However, as 4th gen began to grow, ITZY just could not keep up and other groups began to dominate.

Their once unique style of being different became their downfall and people grew tired of it after the smash hit that was Wannabe…or maybe it was the fact that Wannabe was so huge that anything they released afterwards just couldn’t compare.

Regardless, I hate how the trajectory of their career has evolved as they’re truly a well rounded group imo. I just wish they could have dominated for a bit longer.

  • They're doing fine, and not every group is meant to be a top group. It's hard to sustain top 5 position for 5+ years. I think the main challenge for Itzy was evolving their sound. They had moments but I think they usually didn't select the best title tracks.

I think what's important is they have a decent size fanbase, release a lot of music, and are able to tour. I assume they're making good money with their output and being able to tour. Plus, they extended with jype which means they will have more opportunities for solo activities.

  • They didn't dominate bc they had no competition, they dominated bc their music, concept, everything was really good, they matched their sound. I liked how they felt "cheerful", but after some few comebacks the quality of music wasn't the same, they couldn't evolve their music and bc of their vocals they had some struggle to completely change so that's it.

But regardless they still have a great fandom size where they can tour, sell a lot of albums and just keep going. So overall they are good. Sure, they could be bigger, but logically this can be said about any big4 group so it's ok.

It was clearly this the problem

During ITZY debut their only competition was only Izone and Gidle

So no big company gg, and both groups weren't exactly big in charting power

Once more 4th gen gg from company who had the same money than JYP to push their gg like Aespa, lesserafim, starship etc...

Itzy weren't able to compete anymore

That's literally what happen in any commercial "world"

When the amount of product is low, the consumer will directly go for the biggest company product

But once other big company start to produce the same product and consumer ser that there's more choices

They'll go for the product that fit them the most and not anymore for the product that had the "monopoly" of the market in this area

Unless this product can evolve with the taste of consumer

  • They haven’t released a really good song since Loco in my opinion. I personally didn’t like any of them, I checked every comeback but no it’s just not listenable and forgettable.

  • the GP is a fickle creature

it is unpredictable which song(s) / group will the GP latch onto next

it used to be that you can release a GP friendly song and guarantee to at least chart somewhat well in the K charts - these days that is become rarer...

furthermore there is no much more competition from fellow 4th gen groups to their seniors in the third gen to up and comers from the 5th gen

  • They renewed and put out the same stuff as they always do. So they must be happy with both their music and their current level of success. And that's all that matters I guess.

If they want to hit bigger they need to do something dramatically different. That's why Imaginary Friend was so well-received. The Girls Will Be Girls trailer seemed like it was going to go deeper into that. A genuine dream-pop/shoegaze sound in k-pop would have been crazy. But then... nope, same old Itzy.

Which, if it's fine for them, and it's fine for their fans, then so be it.

  • they have better b sides than titles

    problem are song selections

I loved times of first three songs, they were all cool, and amazing and more bright!

also someone mentioned Loco, that was a good one as well

Sneakers had fun vibe to it

I don't know why suddenly they're doing even more rap in songs? like why ddoes Yeji have rap part at the start of new song? I even forgot the title because it was such a mess
