Just wondering.
Just wondering.
Can I say in-between?
Can I say in-between?
Sure, I added that option
I assume you're asking this question because her solo career has been aimed largely at a western audience? You didn't elaborate, so that's my only guess. In which case, yes, she's still a Kpop idol. You can't escape the label that easily. She's still a product of the Kpop industry, just like any other soloist or group that goes international (and if you've ever used the term "kpoppies," that includes your favorite group.)
I think 3/4 blackpink members soloist careers are aiming towards the western market. However, they're still considered kpop because majority of their fans come from kpop spaces, and they promote in Korea. I guess you can can say they blur the lines, but I look at as they outgrown the market and looking to expand.
she's in a kpop group
she's a kpop idol
she's released solo songs (including a song literally called SOLO - fun fact - 7 years to this day Solo was released on 12 November 2018)
ego she's a kpop soloist
Jisoo did an English song with Zayn...her eventual debut full album will likely have a bunch of full english songs as well.
and?
In between too, but to be honest, it's obvious that the Western market is the main focus for all 4 of them.
Is that a good thing? Don't care, and we'll find out soon when Blackpink "disbands" and we won't see them in the news every day. The Western market can give them a lot of money and fame for short-term, but it's much harder than the Korean or Asian market. If they ignore Korea for long, they can lose both.
I mean, popularity wise, but if they want to release music regularly like REAL ARTISTS, Charts won't be their main focus for long anyway.
I'll give 4 years or so to Lisa and Jisoo, and their main focus is going to be acting, not the music industry. I always thought the musical career was meant for Jennie and Rose.

The language of the songs are not the problem. The real issue if they don't promote in their home country.
she's a kpop soloist through and through. i know she's trying to branch out but it's not working YET. they are still not in pop conversations when people discuss the current pop girls. even rose with the huge success of APT isn't included in these pop discussions. when talking about current pop girls, they always talk about tate, chappell, olivia, etc and even addison rae. but then again jennie only has 1 album out sooo
yes, and she's also a normal solist and a member of a popular group.
She can do it all.
