I know SNSD did but SM expected that one performance will bring the result they want and didn't really bother to do anything after that.

1. Except the disband song, every Wonder Girls comeback is successful, landed at #1 for many weeks. It's true that they didn't hit as big as earlier, but who else did? People's expectation for the same success as TellSoNo is unrealistic, it is an once in a life time miracle,
2. The hiatus fumbled them directly. Since one member's departure in 2013, they took nearly 2 years for a comeback, basically kill the steam. But we still don't have the detail to decide whether JYP should take the blame. For your information, the group had many lineup changes but still came out fined so I think we even have to compliment JYP for that.

Honestly, it was Lim. I love her, but Lim replacing Sunmi was one of the biggest fumbles I've EVER seen. She really only got in bc she spoke English, but she was never able to really keep up with the WG and always stook out like a sore thumb.
WG could've took as many hiatuses as needed if they just came back with their golden formula of Sunmi's husky tone leading the verses, Sohee doing a killing pre-chorus, Yeeun and Sunye handling the choruses/ad-libs and Yubin doing a smooth hard rap. Literally perfect formula. But that Lim placement....
But WG rebooting their image and still getting some hit songs without their 2 most popular members being in the group is so impressive to me.

Just because SME is clueless and probably doesn't even care, doesn't mean BTS was the first, or they paved the way or anything like that. No one's denying that BTS, TWICE and BP helped to make Kpop bigger in the West, BUT Kpop was already big there when they were in elementary school. Most people just don't know this, because they weren't there, and social media and streaming wasn't a huge part of Kpop yet.
