    This thread started as me spamming about Effie, an up and coming singer/rapper who has a Hyperpop/digicore sound - think 100 gecs, Drain Gang, Jane Remover and Skrillex.


    Since then, the thread has grown to include other artists that fall under the Hyperpop umbrella.


    Hyperpop covers a vast array of sounds, and the Korean scene is no exception: Here you'll find everything from the aforementioned glitchy and distorted trap beats of Effie and System Seoul to the EDM/Bubblegum Bass sound of The Deep, to the Y2K aesthetics and liquid drum'n'bass/UK garage of Bébe Yana , iiso and Hanhee, to the pluggnb of RICOY and Jena Powder.


    I've reformatted this first post to include a personal playlist of my top picks and recommendations, but you'll find lots of other artists to explore listed in this thread by other uses.

    I think she's making waves in Japan a little (where there is a much bigger scene of similar artists). I'm finding a lot of videos on small Japanese channels (like Black Board, above) that are featuring her.

    Unsure how popular the scene is there because whenever I discover artists their views and listens are low. It feels like they're in the wrong market.

    I've changed the thread title so we can dump other artists in her too. You're right, the scene seems incredibly small - only Effie seems to be able to pull in a near respectable amount of monthly listeners (at 60K [EDIT - So does the The Deep, others barely get 10K]). It seems the same with these Japanese artists we are discussing too. Kamiya has barely 5K listeners every month...


    Another to add to this thread is iiso. Do you know her? She's a musical chameleon, doing everything from poppy glitch-core to post-punk. So some of it doesn't fit this thread, but other songs do. She's got a new release from this year that went under my radar but it's amazing (I recommend Milky for this sort of sound and Bloody Hell for something totally different)

    She has great music, and Idol level visuals so I am not sure why she isn't more popular.

    Wow amazing discovery! You weren't kidding about the versatility because those recommendations took me for a ride. I was shocked in a good way for "salad days"


    I checked her IG and seem to have a devent following but unsure if people are checking her music. This whole scene is confusing because there's great talent, but they don't have the visibility. Unsure if they can do better if they try to go west, but I feel a lot of the music in this thread would do well here. There's popular scenes here and I think they make music as good as some of the artist but I get sad when I look at the views and listens.


    NVM I see with iiso she's doing pretty good on Spotify. That's good. I am going to check more of her music tonight because I am addicted to salad days. That song is sensational!

    Glad you like iiso too. I don't know what label she is signed to now, but she was on a small Korean hip-hop label, so I think they just had absolutely NO idea how to promote her lol.


    Her scattergun discography can be quite random to listen to right now but I think it will be excellent once it has a bit more meat to it (and this new Ash EP from March goes a long way to finally fleshing out her discography).


    In other news, Effie released a music video for 2025 Gichim. I love how crazy and distorted this song is. Reminds me of Bladee's Cold Visions album from last year (which was my overall favourite album of the year)

    I just want to say Bottles and StanGIDLE you guys have great taste in music, you've posted several artists I already love but hardly see discussed online + a few new names I now want to check out.


    In additions to the artists already posted, I recommend: (most of these falls more into house/alternative, less hyperpop)

    I love Sumin's music. I feel she's underrated among international fans and she's been credited for some big songs


    Hoody is very good too, and she makes great music. I think there's a lot of underrated k r&b artists.

    Yeah, there's too many song of hers to post :sweat: Hopefully she releases new music soon because her last release was last year.


    I think reason why it wasn't brought up because the scene is much smaller. There's most likely a lot of artist that have a unique sound but not enough visibility. I think she should be much bigger, but needs more visibility.

    Listened to Unnie today and it was pretty cool. It's nice seeing the scene team up together. it's feeling a bit like Japan in that regard how many are collaborating


    Enjoyed the Tears song. I thought the mix for it was cool . Also was listening to Effie's album E today and it's so good. Her versatility is good because it showed some of her range and she's not just a one dimensional artist. I find that part interesting because I've noticed a lot of artists in this scene has a lot of range. I was also shocked to listen to some of The Deep's earlier music and it was mostly r&b which is cool. I thought her music was pretty good but it was smart to make the change to her current style. She's having a ton of fun with it which is nice to see


    Agree about Yves. White Cat has been playing non-stop for me. I think it might be my most listened to track of the month. I ended up buying Yves album because I want to support her solo career. I've bought both of them so far, so said might as well buy this one too.

    I’ve been listening to the EP a fair amount recently. I’m not massive on Can I Sip Dambae, but I love Let’s Find a Good Manager and Makgeolli Banger.


    The crew are starting to make more waves on the official Spotify Hyperpop playlist, with Effie having a few songs featured on it now, and a new song by Kimj has just gone on to it too, (and honorary member SEBii is on it a few times as well.) We just need to see The Deep get on it too.

I think The Deep will get on there soon because I feel she's making the most traction of the artist because she's at 100k monthly spotify listeners.     I think on Korean side it seems much smaller than what's happening in Japan. I think there might be some potential in China because some artists popped up and seems there's potential in that region


    I wish I wasn't chaotic on spotify because I just like content instead of putting it in a playlist. I feel one day I should make a playlist that combines American, UK, Europe, and Asian countries because feels like a lot of good content overall.

    oh that’s great! Effie seems to be around 100k too. Looking back through the thread, it seems at the start of July both were around 60k, so that’s a pretty significant growth for both of them.

    Another artist I have been listening to a lot recently in Yuzion - she’s very hip-hop adjacent, and a self-styled “melodic trapper”, and makes songs with really catchy melodies.


    She released 2 amazing albums a number of years ago, and then went a little quiet due to a minor controversy. Now she’s slowly coming back to the scene, so I am really looking forward to her next big release.

    Okay this sounds good. I am going to check out her music this week. I liked in my pocket and jealousy.

    Unsure if post is allowed on forum, so i will put in spoiler tag. The Deep has announced her first album. I feel it's going to be great because I don't think she has missed yet since switching to her current style tbh



    I think this artist seems to be a bit underrated. She went into a bit direction with her songs in 2025 but it sounds nice

    I haven't listened much to iiso, but I've listened plenty to The Deep. Her latest single, Different, is the bomb. Just when you thought the beginning was great... she blows you away by the time she gets to the chorus!!

    And then you need to listen to this one - it sounds nothing like those other songs, but it is my favourite from the EP (I love how she can do Bedroom Pop and Post-Punk and pull them both off).
