Which girl groups are in (or about to enter) the 10 Year Club

  • Very few girl groups make it to the 10 Year Club....

Since Oh My Girl is just about to enter the 10 Year Club, and Twice as well in a few months ... which girl groups are in the 10 year club? I know Apink and SNSD did enter the milestone ... but which others?

    And does Gfriend count? CLC?

  • Groups like Gfriend only count if you ignore the fact that they essentially disbanded only to return later, which would make the list a lot longer at this point. CLC definitely doesn't count, as they're just straight up gone. Some disbanded groups like to celebrate their debut anniversaries, and maybe even get together for it, but they're still disbanded. I also wouldn't count groups that started out as something else, like Dreamcatcher.

To me this implies a group that actually remained active for 10 straight years, with no reunions required. So SNSD, Apink, Red Velvet, Oh My Girl, soon to be Twice, maybe Blackpink if you want to be generous (and they don't announce an official disbandment before then), and... that's about it, really, unless there's someone I'm forgetting.

  • Gfriend should count as they did do concerts for their reunion and out out new music.

CLC, no, they just has a reunion, no new music or performances.

    Who counts.

    GFriend*

    SNSD

    Twice

    Oh My Girl

    EXID*

    APINK

    KARA*

    Red Velvet

    Lovelyz*

Brave Girls** / BBGirls (even with the line up changes)

Rainbow* would qualify right, they disbanded, but had a 10th anniversary single, they promoted a little.

S.E.S* (they did a promotional song)

    T-ara*

    2NE1*

    About to make it,

Mamamoo* (pretty soon, if we consider them as still a group, this one is questionable for now)

    BlackPink*

    * Only if groups that disbanded/went on hiatus and then reunited.

** Only if is ok to have multiple lineup changes.

By your criteria there are a lot less than on my list.

    I would ask you about.

    Brave girls,

Originally debuted in 2011, promoted until 2013, then after a long "hiatus" they re-debuted in 2016 with the same name two original members (Yoojin and Hyeran) and 5 new members, then in 2023 they disbanded and rebranded BB Girls with a new company.

    So,

    1. Does Brave Girls qualify for 10 years back in 2021 (no original members were left by then)

    2. if the 3 current BBGirls members are still around in 2026, wowould they celebrate 15 years, 10 years or 3 years?

    Mamamoo/BlackPink

Do you consider them still a group that did not officially disband? or if they release a song in 2026, would you put them in the Rainbow category? same question for BP.

    KARA / EXID

They kind of unofficially disbanded, but they eventually reunited made new music and are still active doing shows, would they qualify?

  • Another group that almost made it.

    Rania / RP Rania

They are in a similar situation as Brave girls.

Debuted in 2011, they had multiple lineup changes, then rebranded in 2020, Blackswan was a break from the prior group, so I personally would not count them (only 9 years), but if that is the case, then Brave Girls should only count from 2011 to 2023.

  • Brave Girls are a very iffy case. I'm not super familiar with them or their circumstances, but if there weren't any original members left by their 10th anniversary, I'm not sure that should count. I would probably be hesitant to count any group that's lost most of its original members, but there should be at least one left. Otherwise it might as well be a different group altogether.

Mamamoo... ehh. The thing is, a lot of groups these days don't officially disband, but in reality that's what they're doing once they leave their company and go inactive for long periods, until it's time for a reunion. They're likely one of those cases at this point. So I think whether or not they should be penalized for not making it to ten years before this happened is highly debatable, but at the very least, I would put an asterisk next to them. If they actually promoted for their 10th anniversary I would take a more lenient stance, but they didn't.

Kara & EXID were inactive long enough that they could be considered effectively disbanded. Same goes for groups like T-ara and 2NE1. It's nice that they got back together, but I wouldn't count them.

I forgot about T-ara and you are right about 2NE1

T-ara did have a 4 year hiatus, changed companies and came back in 2021, they held a 15th anniversary concert in China and they are still officially active.

So for T-ara we could say their active years were 2009-2017, 2021-2022, 2024-2025?

That is around 10-12 years of being a group with 4 original members.

  • Jewelry

    2001 - 2015

They had many member changes but continued to be active as a group unlike other groups that had a long hiatus only to make a comeback special where many are not from the same label.

    Wondergirls

    Feb 2007 - Feb 2017

In January 2017 they announced they were disbanding after their last release and 10th Anniversary.

    Brown Eyed Girls

    2006 - 2016

While their contracts did expire in 2015, B.E.G did Concerts in 2016 as well as held their 10th Anniversary where they were the first Kpop GG to have lasted 10 years with their original members.

    Hiatus Vs Disbandment

Hiatus is when a group is still under contract but not active whereas Disbandment is when there is no ongoing contract for the group, examples follow.

    Groups on Hiatus

BlackPINK, technically many SME groups can qualify as SME retains member/s thereby keeping the Group's IP so they can officially have a Comeback.

    Groups that were Disbanded

Even without the first line up Brave Girls are about to enter the 10 year club soon. The second Line up debuted in 16th february 2016. They celebrated their 9th anniversery some month ago. So they will have their 10th in early 2026.
