I've seen lots of them. Lots of Kurosawa of course. Lots of Kenji Mizoguchi too which I like very much.
A favorite movie series of mine is Zatoichi which tells the adventures of a blind masseur who happens to be a great swordsman despite his lack of sight. He travels the roads and villages of Japan and always ends up getting involved in yakuza clans shenanigans.
Masaki Kobayashi's Harakiri (1962) is an absolute classic too.
Other recommendations:
Lady Snowblood (Toshiya Fujita, 1973) starring the amazing Meiko Kaji
Love Letter (Shunji Iwai, 1995)
Kamikaze Girls (Tetsuya Nakashima, 2004)
And of course, lots of animated movies!
Love letter is iconic. It was probably the first Japanese live action film I watched as a kid.

I actually really liked the Death Note live actions (not the Netflix one obviously). I think Kenichi Matsuyama did a great job as L. Nothing can compete with the anime, tho..

Rurouni Kenshin is good
