Please save your fake pity towards BABYMONSTER for someone else

  • I totally agree with this post. People really need to get that the girls have always been passionate about YGE's style and sound – they didn’t just get stuck with it, they actually chose it. They've worked so hard to get where they are, and it’s clear they’re already succeeding. They're talented, and you can see their love for performing every time they hit the stage. I’m so excited to watch them keep growing and show the world what they’re really capable of (hello world tours!). and as a fan, I don't really care about the success standards that kpop fans set. Anyway, go girls.

  • People take the "K-pop company controls idols" narrative too far and basically assume the idols are always unhappy with what they're doing. Why's it that only BTS members are portrayed as 100% strong, independent people who are always happy with everything they do as artists?

If people actually took the time to watch their content instead of looking at charts all day and acting like armchair corporate bosses, they'd know these girls play a hand in the creative process and look up to their YGE seniors, namely 2NE1 and BLACKPINK. For Ahyeon, she's inspired by G-Dragon.

I urge people to watch this video in particular to see how the girls are genuinely passionate about what they do, their general concept and all. Asa even sat down and monitored Chiquita as she recorded because she wanted to help Chiquita with rapping.

  • They're doing well, they're the biggest group of their generation internationally. I just wish kpop companies would be more creative and stop releasing groups with a similar concept/image to previous groups. This 2ne1/bp vibe doesn't suit them in my opinion.

  • Chiquita and Pharita had been huge Lisa and Blackpink fans since they were young, before they auditioned to become trainees at YGE. Ahyeon was a trainee at JYPE before deciding to join YGE, and her favorite artist of all time is GD. Ruka was a hip-hop dancer and also a massive 2NE1 fan, Asa got her sight on YGE because she really liked 'Playing with fire' etc.

The girls themselves have always loved the YGE sound and style, it's not a situation where they have to do the concepts they dislike because of the company. Even in their pre-debut content, from when they were middle school age, they were pretty open about their passion for being on stage, when asked about their goals the answers were mostly about festivals and world tours. Chiquita was mocked because of her mentioning Coachella, there were multiple viral tweets about 'win a music show first' etc. But the members are very proud of their live performing skills and are excited to show that whenever they have an opportunity to do so. And honestly they always look like they are having a blast when they can go loose a bit at their concerts.

This is right, and I wish people were more aware of this.

YGE doesn't really go out and scout for trainees the way other companies do. The idols who are there made the decision to audition or join specifically YGE because they like the sound and style.

This is particularly true of groups that came after 2NE1 and BIGBANG. The members of iKON, WINNER, TREASURE, and BABYMONSTER looked up to their predecessors and wanted to embody the "YG DNA" (as they themselves call it).

BABYMONSTER is a group full of YGE stans whose dreams came true.

Chiquita, who wasn't a rapper to begin with, only started learning how to rap relatively recently. She did it on her own accord. The company didn't force that on her. She just wanted to learn, and now she's getting rap verses on songs.

I think people underestimate the fact that these girls are genuinely interested in the creative process. It's a disservice to assume they're just being controlled by the company.
