That's too bad. I was hoping for a time-phased data set of monthly streams, so that we could examine the rise and fall of the various groups over the years. I'm assuming that similar historical per-month data can't be provided for monthly listeners either.

yes its very possible Twice would have more total streams than BP had they opened their account earlier. they do have almost 3x as many tracks, but still impressive numbers
i don't think so. tt and cheer up would have maybe 500 million streams each. they still have 200M. wouldnt make up for the 4 billion stream difference.

Using the data provided by Tru-Multistan, I made an attempt to get an idea of which groups have the most fandom-driven streams.
For this analysis, I'm assuming that a follower is a fan, since I don't think that most people would follow an artist on Spotify that they don't have at least some fondness for.
I then divided the number of total followers (i.e. the number of fans) by the number of monthly listeners, and expressed the result as a percentage. Thus, a group with a large number of monthly listeners but a low number of followers (fans) would have a lower corresponding percentage, indicating that their streams are "general public"-supported, and that their fandom is weaker.
Artist Monthly Listeners Total Followers Followers ÷ Listeners BLACKPINK 16,802,657 49,631,714 295.38% TWICE 9,533,748 20,325,733 213.20% ITZY 5,224,235 7,423,299 142.09% Red Velvet 6,670,258 9,129,791 136.87% (G)I-DLE 9,959,844 9,287,303 93.25% STAYC 2,360,626 1,871,925 79.30% NMIXX 3,805,209 2,896,146 76.11% IVE 7,351,065 4,282,482 58.26% NewJeans 17,740,405 8,384,704 47.26% aespa 12,607,152 5,800,123 46.01% LE SSERAFIM 11,868,224 5,368,648 45.24% KISS OF LIFE 4,606,326 996,094 21.62% BABYMONSTER 9,431,316 1,848,240 19.60% FIFTY FIFTY 9,103,624 1,620,482 17.80% ILLIT 14,202,512 1,131,251 7.97% Looking at these results, they do make some intuitive sense. Fifty Fifty is perhaps the best example of "the song being bigger than the group", and I don't think Illit has had time to really establish a fandom yet.

Nope
First Blackpink songs to cross 100 million were Boombayah and AIIYL and both only crossed it by December 2018. BP cumulative streams before 2019 was well under one billion mark
The key to understanding why is Spotify aviability in Asia. In Japan and Indonesia it launched in 2016, in Thailand in 2017, in Vietnam in 2018, in India in 2019, in Korea only in 2021. Of course it take some years after launch for a country to have a significant amount of subscribers and streaming activity
Long story short, Twice did not lost a significant amount of streams being absent from Spotify for 3 years. While their numbers would surely be bigger, they would never make a significant difference not because Twice were unpopular, it was simply because Spotify were not widely used yet

Need to make note that TWICE Spotify account was created in late 2018. They missed their most dominant years (2016-2018) with their most dominant hits (Cheer Up for SK and TT for Japan) at their peak viralness/height. But they still are making up for it in in six years. Not bad at all.
Anyways as a chart watcher, I'm curious how Illit and Le Sserafim will fair on BB Hot 100 in the later half of this year.
The account was created before then, it just only had the Japanese tracks until early 2018 when they added the Korean ones. idk why Once always pretend that wasn't the case.
Spotify wasn't very big for kpop in 2016/2017 so it wouldn't have changed things much, maybe an extra few hundred million to their total. -

Yea that's actually a good point about it taking time to catch on. Saying it was very possible is wrong. Maybe it was possible, but pretty unlikely, it is quite a bit difference.

This is an interesting insight, glad I posted the data cus I would never think to do that . I found some more comprehensive regional data for spotify monthly listeners that I can post when I have time. It's not limited to top 5 cities so shows a bit more worldwide

Searching with Twitter, Twice had Japanese songs available to stream on Spotify as early as August 2017. Potentially earlier, but that's the earliest I could find evidence.
The account was opened earlier and had a few hundred thousand followers some months before that.
Twice's Korean tracks were added March 2018. So the people saying "late" 2018 are trying to downplay their lack of streams by saying a later date I guess.
Just for people trying to rewrite history. -
