South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT sends something up in Space and names it after BTS because it represents Korea. There are a thousand Kpop groups and other Korea's icons, through the years, that they can use to represent Korea in their space study but they chose BTS. Such an honour!
Their impact is out of this world (pun intended). 
BTS will be written in South Korea's history.

Sometimes I feel bad for Korea as it seems they think Kpop is the most important thing that defines their society.

They want to honour someone who they feel is a global representative of their country. This is not about Koreans views on Kpop, which tbh is actually quite dim seeing how dismissive most Kgp are of idol groups., but specifically about honouring a singular group that they believe has elevated national prestige.

This isn’t really about this alone but a continuous issue with the Korean government where they seem to believe the best thing about Korean society is Kpop or kdrama. This is also the problem with their world fair bid in Busan. It was embarrassing because they just highlighted Kpop and shit and not actual cultural elements of Korea.
