The thing that i find most weird is that oppa means big/older brother, why do korean girls call their boyfriends/ romantic partners as oppa (big brother)?

Well... I know that Seonghwa has once said in a VLIVE (I think it was like some months after their debut) that he wants his fans to call him "oppa" because of a reason, which I think was something like him wanting his fans to maybe talk to him as if they were in a closer relationship.
