It is seriously funny how people on this forum have set of standards to being a fan

  • In the parameters most kpop fans use ,popularity and money. Mamamoo can't beat BP or Twice. Is just like that. That's why Kpop is different from Sports. The most talented dont win overall. Meanwhile in Sports, the most talented groups and players are always on top.

Then why is (G)I-DLE, at worst, the fourth most popular girl group in Korea?

Talent does win sometimes in K-Pop too

the issue with talent and sports is that the better teams wins on average most of the time...

that's why in certain sports - I follow basketball which plays best of seven

I think soccer for example for some of the knockout stages has best of twos?

nothing in sports is a guarantee and the "better" team has better odds of winning but that doesn't prohibit a "worse" team from winning every now and then

and if both team and individual sports people can have off days which cause them to lose which is why we normally say that the better or more talented team/individual are more likely to win

but I would say in kpop talent does not necessarily equal success...and fans stan/like their favs for different reasons other than pure singing/dancing talent

  • Well... yeah, if my favourite artist had an album where I don't like any of the songs (or at least find them "meh"), I don't think I would buy the album or go listen to the songs on repeat to "support" them.

Like if I don't like that song that they have, then I often don't listen to that one as much as I listen to the ones I actually like.

But I'm sure that I still would kinda "support" the artist until I lose interest or something.

And well... to compare it with the "favourite pizza place" example as Dreamer was saying, it would be weird if someone ordered Hawaii pizza even though they don't like that pizza, just to "support" the workers. Like you would order the pizza that you like.

Not sure why there's confusion over what you're saying.

If overall talent in all things was what would define success in kpop, the top groups would look incredibly different.

Aespa, Nmixx, and Babymonster would be the clear big 3. (If we're only speaking on vocal talent)

Like what you're saying is true with Mamamoo. Are they incredibly successful? Yes, but if it was sports, they'd be the Chicago Bulls in 95 and they clearly are not that in gen 3

  • There is no confusion. I just disagree with his take and now your analogy.

There is plenty of overlap between K-Pop stan behavior and Sports fan behavior. I'm quite literally an expert on both, and I would be surprised if there is a bigger sports fan than me here. At the very least, I've argued more with other sports fans exponentially more than K-Pop fans, and we know how much I've done of the latter.

Going back to your analogy, Mamamoo would be much closer to the 95 Rockets than the 95 Bulls during third generation, tyvm.
