Why doesn't Jeongyeon really get lines?

Doesn't she request it or at least she did in the beginning

because if the producers want tough vocals they will give to jihyo and Nayeon
If they want someone with good distinct / contrasting vocal colors, they will go for Mina, Sana, Tzuyu.
This leave Jeongyeon in an awkward position. She is basically fighting with both the main vocals and the subvocalists for lines. And most of the time, she either ended up in between (best case) or the least (worst case). Since twice's songs usually uses jihyo, nayeon, sana and tzuyu for chorus. Mina's usually on verse + bridge (not many chorus). And jeonyeon's vocal is too strong for pre-chorus and bridge that it will overpower the subsequent chorus

she is very good vocalist and she has very strong voice. But imo her voice color isn't as interesting and entertaining as some others, also not so smooth, so I guess not all twice songs fit it, also she is the least popular member and I think it also has to do with it

Because the producers don't seem to know how to use her voice. Or they openly prefer the others.
I used to rant about it but since Jeongyeon never really did side projects I console myself thinking she's not that much into singing to begin with and she's fine with it. Maybe...
It's a shame though because she's always stable in live and it would have helped Twice to respect the actual positions in the group during tough times

I guess it's because I struggle with the idea of such large groups where some members just end up backgrounded. I'm more used to groups where each member fulfils a niche/role and stands out in that niche/role.
Yeah she sings, I'd damn well hope anyone in a kpop group sings. That should be a given.
But what is her standout quality in the group? What niche does she fill that others don't?

So your question is about personality or..? Because I can see even among the groups you stan in your badges, there are more than 2-3 members, so there is bound to be at least 2 members that both sing or rap ? If it's about voice color, which play a role in the outcome of a song production, then Jeongyeon's voice is more raw and powerful, which is useful for more mature or edgy songs, one example being Cry For Me. The thing is Twice, which was first meant to have a more girlcrush concept for which 6mix cast in particular trained for, went with the cute concept and evolved from it, and the producers seem to have difficulties using Jeongyeon's voice in their discography (that and some of them avoid using her when they could)
