It's basically lack of Artist Development funding - the lack of a quick ROI on groups that require a bit more development than a Solo act makes it a bit harder for Record Companies to invest in groups.
Working in A&R its much more feasible to support a Solo artist that has a faster development path.
Not saying its right (or even wrong for that matter), but that's how its been the past half decade or so.
The SK and Japan training method is lost on some folks in the West, but I'll definitely be keeping my ears peeled for Hybe/Geffen's effort with Katseye. If they are successful with this training and development methods and get a respectable ROI, you might see this more often with record companies again.

Same for boy groups. Feel like it's very difficult to make a BG organically in the west without it coming off as corny and lame.
