It supposed to lose strength and will be a tropical storm by the time it hits CA
"Hurricane Hilary strengthened to a Category 4 storm early Friday but is expected to weaken before reaching California."
"If the system makes landfall in California as a tropical storm, it will be a rarity. The last time this happened in the past century was in Long Beach in 1939."
Category 4 Hurricane Hilary expected to deluge California and the U.S. Southwest with rainThe latest news and live updates on Hurricane Hilary, which has grown into a Category 4 hurricane expected to bring strong winds and rain this week.www.nbcnews.com -
I've seen predictions of 45mph winds in San Diego. LA will probably be a bit better off. However, if the storm wobbles to the west all bets are off
.This is what a tropical storm did to the Big Island (40-60mph winds sustained with higher gusts). Not sure LA would be ready for this, i would be mostly concerned about floods and power lines.

can LA handle a hurricane?
I don't think we can lol.
Though, thankfully as other commentors have mentioned, it's supposed to be a tropical storm by the time it gets here, and the Mayor of the city gave a press conference to give out emergency information in case it gets bad.
Power outages are already bad out here, so if nothing else, I wouldn't be surprised if the power goes out. They are also saying it might flood. So...yeah...I may or may not be going to work on Monday. We shall see.

Climate change is not messing around out here.
