Article: Fifty Fifty's CEO even invested the 90 million won it took his 90 year old mother her whole life to save

    Source: Insight via Instagram

[+2,585] The problem from here is that if Fifty Fifty wins their lawsuit, there will be no hope left for any smaller agency anymore. What if a small group goes viral on TikTok? It'll just take another bigger, richer company to sweep in and take it all for themselves...

[+1,705] A group like this deserves nothing more than to be disbanded. No one should be buying even one album from them. The members should be banned from ever promoting again in this industry. Rescind every single trophy they won on music shows.

[+2,339] The CEO even invested in 2-3 years of English lessons for the members... I feel so bad for him

[+975] They're the ones who came to him wanting help to achieve their dream of becoming an idol, and now that they've got a taste of that fame, they're acting like they got here all on their own

[+808] Bang Shi Hyuk also got burned hard by Glam, which is why he never wanted to make a girl group of his own again

[+769] The best thing they can do at this point is cancel their lawsuit, apologize to their CEO, and reframe their story as the parable of the prodigal son

[+327] For those of you who don't understand how the idol industry works, imagine a company spending a ton of money and resources in R&D to develop a product that became a hit, only for another company to come in and steal it

[+214] I feel bad for the CEO either way;; even if he wins in court and gets his group back, the public is already over them, and he will no longer be able to recoup his investments.. Sigh, he's in a bad place either way.. ㅠㅠ

[+324] I rarely ever side with the corporation but I am siding with the CEO here!! Fighting!! Find strength!!

[+83] Even words of hate are wasted on them

Article: Both domestic and international sentiment are negative towards girl group Fifty Fifty, "The group that betrayed a 90-year-old woman"

    [+418] Traitor-ty Traitor-ty ㅋㅋ

[+274] I can't believe not one member is sane enough to realize that their fame is based off of one good song picked by their agency ㅋㅋ and not because any of them are anything special

[+387] Aigoo... they really must be thinking they're on New Jeans' level

[+473] Got on the Billboard once and immediately betrayed their own CEO

[+283] I never knew a group liket his even existed until all this news broke out

[+357] We'll be seeing them on "where are they now?" in a few years soon enough ㅋㅋㅋ

[+73] I wonder if the members even know... that the whole reason they're famous is because their CEO invested a ton in viral marketing on TikTok?

[+53] We know their song but not their faces. Just re-debut them with new members.

[+28] I remember EXID took two years to start getting paid... which is actually on the faster side for the industry.

[+128] All the other famous girl groups didn't start getting paid until 1-2 years later... I can't believe they couldn't even wait that long and kicked their careers out the door like this

[+101] I just feel so bad for the company in all of this

[+100] You know what, just let the members go work with their producer instead of the CEO who housed them. I want the CEO to get a fresh start with a new male group and live a better life after all of this.

[+92] They kicked their own luck out the door

[+91] They ruined their own lives, legendary ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

    [+48] They're so naive...

[+17] Just logically speaking, why are they even expecting pay when they haven't even reached the one year mark into debut? Despite all the investments their CEO made into them, he still got them a 3-bedroom Gangnam dorm to keep their spirits high. Even big agencies don't do that for you. And this is on top of the hundreds of thousands being spent on lessons for them every month. All of the big name idols from big companies didn't start getting paid until after the 2-3 year mark.

  • TBH even if their contract is bad and they wanted out, they choose the worst time possible

Like imagine losing barbie, Samsung, and a famous football CF in 1 week

  • I saw some people saying in another thread that we need to wait to see what their contract was before passing harsh judgement on them for this, but honestly what commenters are saying about some groups not getting paid for a year or two is true, even with decent contracts. i don't know how much they expected to be getting in personal profit just from charting on billboard, where most of the charting methods don't even put money directly into the hands of the artist. like, they were finally about to do the things that would actually give them a paycheck.... it just feel so short sighted.

I don't think the issue is that they aren't getting paid but where that money is going and how much debt they're really racking up

Maybe it's just me but instead of pitying him for how much money he invested into fifi, I feel really concerned about much the company spending beyond their means that counts against 5050.

Visual albums, apartments in gangnam, physical album production and worldwide distribution, tens of thousands of dollars on lessons a month

There's something very wrong with this and how much money he's blatantly spending on mediaplay. This is BBC level recklessness

  • This kinda goes to show you, as trainee debt is not a thing anymore, at least not at the big companies. Some, like YG, never did trainee debt. That the companies get the raw end of the deal if they invest all that time and money in them and if trainees decide to leave before a contract is signed, the company loses their investment.

It was stated during Treasure Box that YG was investing 6-figures (in US dollars) PER TRAINEE.

That's professional choreographers as teachers, singing teachers, English/Japanese language teachers plus you work with the top producers and train in state-of-the-art studios/facilities. Not to mention you are provided a place to live, in YG's case it's a luxury high-rise in a posh district next to the Han River.

Then you think about all the basics like food, assistants/managers who tend to your needs.

I've always said, getting into YG is like getting into an Ivy League university. Only the top 1% get in and you get a top 1% education...and then trainees are free to leave any time with no debt.

You're getting an Ivy League education for free.
