Is this common knowledge?

  • That in libraries, most of the books are sorted by the author's last name?

I think I learned about that thing in school.

Except that I didn't think I learned about stuff like how biographical books were sorted until I worked in a library.

Like they are sorted by the last name of the person that is written about, unless the book is about the author self.

And then there is non-fiction books being sorted by numbers (and the author's last name, of course).

But in the children's non-fiction section, there is a poster saying what number this or that kind of book is.

But well... whenever I'm in the library, wanting to rent a specific book.

I often try to remember what the last name of the author was or at least what letter their last name started with, unless it is an author that I'm familiar with.

Then it is easier for me to search for that specific book.

There are times when I have been in the library and all of a sudden wanted to read a specific book but forgot the author's name....

Well... one day in the library, some girls asked me where a specific Danish YA book was, and then I asked what the author's name was and they only knew the author's first name...

And yup, it was difficult to find that book and I didn't find it, and then assumed that the library didn't have it.

  • They do this in bookstores her too, but it sucks when you go trought the list of possible names and don't find what you are looking for

Imagine there would be an author called Lisa Right. You look at the R-section and cannot find it, but she said on Youtube "my book is in all stores" aaaaaahh

    Average bookstore in Germany:

Funfact: some bookstores also have a cafe inside where you often see people drinking coffee and reading books

  • But does this still becoming a common knowledge at this day?

Idk about another countries but I notice that youngsters and kids at my place never bother going to library or bookstore anymore, unless they are goin with their parents.

Seems like an era of technology had assimilated in the newest generation here...

  • yes? how else will one navigate a library

Trial and error and through a death match if ones happens to pick the same book.

And if you're both KPOP fans then the Librarian will have you both play 'Guess Who' using printed out pictures, or 'What is this song' and play you a snippet of it. Loser have to renounce their fandom for at least a year. Probably worst than the death penalty, some might say.
