The lesson that bts should learn is that Don't be too greedy. Don't reach too high through unconventional means. The fall is going to be much harder. Music industry is not going to just sit and watch the chart manipulation that they themselves cannot do. You play by their rules or u burn. No wonder, they didn't give them a grammy nomination at all until they did payola.

Why are BTS charting so well as a Korean act!! It's not possible!! Korean acts should stay in their lane 
Look at my bp!! They are signed to interscope and once they get the Ariana Grande collab the no 1 will definitely happen!! Until then we fight YG because our baby little girlies rookies can definitely make no decisions on their own!! 
Like Crazy was and is the epitome of a GP friendly hit and even showed signs of traction way outside usual listeners. That potential should have been capitalized on by the label but apparently it didn't "fit the plan."
Sadly with no real campaign/radio/official ongoing promo to keep it visible to a broad audience, it's now doomed to a typical kpop single fate -- that's why fans step in and try to do the work the label won't. It's a vicious cycle.

that's a very black and white way of thinking. If buying albums was really stopped, then jimin would never get that no.1. Infact, the buying of album is not stopped. The money goes into artists pockets so the crying is only for sales not being reflected on chart.
billboard themselves have a responsibility to reflect true popularity like every other chart in other countries. u might know a korean chart called melon? they made a lot of changes too because users kept leaving and stopped using complaining manipulation by fandoms. Charts change a lot of their rules, it's nothing new. Billboard is transitioning more and more towards streaming era.

Ed built goodwill from his massive eras in 2010s decade + he invests in what works for him
"goodwill", see this is what I'm talking about. Other artists like Ed get to rack up "goodwill" over the years with US radio, and they in turn support him despite his flop streams and sales, salvaging his charting essentially singlehandedly
BTS instead get the exact opposite. Why does Ed get radio bailouts while BTS gets chart reform?

it's a bonkers chart. Radio stays on there so that institutions retain control over chart manipulation via radio (essentially self-selected mass plays with no real input from the public), and that is good leverage for US labels.
