Is JYP entertainment's Friendly Factor only to international fans or is it universal?

  • What is the friendly factor: I think of it like this. In the past 5 or so years, out of most large companies JYP entertainment had the most new k-pop groups like Stray Kids, Itzy, and Nmixx. I started being into k-pop in 2019 and I know every member in the previous 3 groups. Compared to YG and SM groups, or actually almost any other k-pop company, I know much more of the total people in JYP so I get a sense that I "know them better" and the brand seems more approachable, almost friendly.

Combine that with the reputation of the founder compared to, any other k-pop founder or main producer of a group. In addition to the kind of music that is more human, low intelligence, and fun; less American-ized, high art, or robot stuff. Then I feel like JYP is the company with the friendliest and most familiar image.

However there are 2 things I wonder. 1. Does everyone think like that or is it more because I recently got into K-pop? Maybe from 2010-2015 or some other time period, for example, YG or SM had many new groups and people who were into k-pop at that time see those companies as the most familiar.

    2. Would people in South Korea think that JYPE is the most approachable company, the closest to the people, the most like a friend? Or maybe would they think YG is that because they respect Bigbang or something.

Also one time Blue2012, you said something along the lines of "Treasure is the first group by YG that is marketed like an idol group" and that could also be something that supports the conclusion JYP has the friendliest image.

  • Pfft, probably to international only. They want to appear good to foreigners.

Well it worked as I believe the members of Twice and Stray Kids are my buddies,

Oh right I also forgot, people in these groups speak English, but I am not sure if that's significantly more than in other companies (bundles of related groups)

  • I don't really understand this whole friendly factors you're talking about because from what I read, you're just like a company stans that interested in every groups that Jyp produce, so you just bond to them. This is technically what happen to every company stans, and this 'friendly factors' works for every big 4.

For me, if you talk about friendly and approachable groups, I directly thinking about groups with Gp support... I don't think I need to explain this. While in Jyp, their last approachable group were Twice and Day6.

Ok. Yes, I mentioned that I was only strongly into K-pop in 2019 and so the reason JYP might seem more familiar is because they debuted 2 groups since 2019 (3 since 2018) while other companies debuted less. But actually that would not be true because Hybe has debuted TXT, Enhypen, Le Sserafim, and NewJeans in the same period of time. But I just don't consider Hybe as familiar or comfortable because I am just not really a fan of their groups' music and brands. Same for SM and YG.

  • I believe its goes back to 2nd/3rd gen where the big 3 all marketed a different vibe for their groups. I think they use to also pick members that best suits this.

JYP groups aims for the more approachable nice friend vibe. The cute friend that will always share their homework in class.

SM groups aims to be gods and goddesses. The really pretty girl/boy at school with a mysterious aura that everyone wants to date but too scared to approach.

YG more rebellious, skips class and plays hard.

I think since 4th gen the companies have been experimenting with new concepts and with HYPE entering the big 3. This is less noticeable now.

  • I just wasn't there to experience k-pop morethan a few years ago so I don't know if the big 3 always had different brands or if it was just a more recent thing. Cause whenever I look at K-pop more than 5 or 10 years in the past they all look "old" to me, so I haven't really identified differences between them as well.
