opinion: the gg scene is too over saturated I prob wont check out most of the groups

  • The pie is still growing in terms of revenue. Kpop GG sales are blowing up, even Stayc is shattering their previous records, meaning their fandom is growing by leaps and bounds.

But the problem is that the growth is all focused on the top groups. New fans arent giving the bottom 30 groups a chance and just focusing on the top 10 or so.

it’s growing but would the rate of growth slow down with the rate of ggs?

    Once (main), Blink & Fearnot

  • imo its been oversat since 2012

before that it was sorta possible to check most of new releases. There was only 1 or 2 comeback a week.

I gave up checking groups since 2012. Even mid tier agencies cant get attention to their groups now. Alot of agencies that had decently successful groups in the past, cant keep their foot in the door. Ofc bigger agencies debuting more groups than ever also contributing.

  • If anything, it’s drowning out the boy groups. I used to check out both girl groups and boy groups evenly, but now it seems like girl groups are making all the noise.

I think girl groups are collectively benefitting from the hype at this point. I don’t know how long this will last before the bubble bursts, but it’s an interesting time.

It helps that the trendy Y2K concept works better for girl groups.

Can you define Y2K in your own words Just curious how people use it

I dont listen to bg but it’s kinda true :skull:

Nj seems to be at the top bcos of a diff concept. and yes there seems to be a bubble atp since the top companies are churning new gg

I think the content of artwork causing success is just a thinking fallacy, well to be academic the post hoc fallacy (because B happened after A, A was the cause of B, without separating other factors). I think it's only cause more people know that a group exists that more people realize there is an interesting concept in the music. When other groups had weirdo, controversial, or suspected-plagiarized concepts they only got attention for a short amount of time. (e.g. OnlyOneOf libidO)
