Do you think the gg landscape would look any different if women had to enlist?

Wow that seems unnecessarily aggressive but okay lol

Considering its not the current situation there could be a bunch of different outcoumes. Like what if women having to enlist changed the climate and general opinion about women and ages?
-
yes and no depending on when they have to do it
I've said it before that female idols have a shelf life whether one wants it or not
it is very rare that GG renew with all of their members
it is rarer than GG renew and promote after 30
it is rarest for a GG to renew and promote and be successful
if the enlistment age were around 30 then maybe there wouldn't be as much disruption compared if they had to it at say 25 or something in the prime of their kpop careers

I think it would be even tougher for ggs. They already have a shorter shelf life then bgs as is (fans moving to younger ggs, losing popularity, scandals hit harder etc) so adding a minimum 2 year hiatus on top would have a huge impact on them. If they have staggered enlistment among members, ggs could have 3, 4 or more years hiatus for a full group CB. If they enlist when close to 30 yo and they haven't yet but a solid fan base before then it's pretty much a career killer

It depends on the group. Members of BlackPink have enlisted twice in the past and it didn't affect them.

Boy groups have enlistment
Girl groups have ageism
It evens out and 7 years seem to be time frame for most boy and girl groups

She cant serve even if she wanted to. Korean army is a korean only club. 😅

that would be a major societal shift that would impact a looot more than kpop gg's longevity. the government would have to finally establish a system where idols can postpone without having to sign up for those university degrees.

Lol. There's a difference between taking a 1 or 2 years hiatus and being out of the limelight with very limited appearances for 4 years to god knows how long it will be. It's almost always the reason behind boygroups' inactivity or silent disbandment. I can't even name a boygroup that remained the same (group activity wise) after enlisting. It's either they were put to an indefinite hiatus while some are doing solo or god knows what. And even if they managed to still be together they only do a couple activities here and there then silently part ways. Popularity isn't the main problem here- it's the dynamics.
