What is stopping fromis_9 from being a top group?

    I'm not a stan, but from an outsider perspective, they seem to have everything.


    Dare I say an all-visuals lineup, outstanding vocalists (maybe a bit biased but I love Song Hayoung's vocals), dancers. They have personality in variety, good songs.


    And now they're under the HYBE umbrella as well, and have benefited from appearing in Game Caterers.


    What's stopping them from being a top group? Other than just the new 4th gen wave this year.

    Am I the only one who thinks they're doing better than before? Hybe needs to put more budget into their works and have them collab with other Hybe idols.

    Hayoung isn't actually a very good vocalist, her technique is very basic. Jiwon is much better but you wouldn't know it from how the group treats them as equals. Hayoung's a great dancer though.

    1. They're the rigged girls group from mnet survival show. The pd manipulated the voting results 233 times during that 11 episode show. Knetz still not accepting this group well, they bring about the manipulation topics everytime they see the girls.


    2. They used to be in the same company with Izone which is Otr/Swing. They're like the step daughter of this company because Izone was really successful. They're under in the dungeon quite long and the company didn't give them good promotion and management.


    3. They're under Hybe right now, but not debuted directly from Hybe will make the company stans not really fond of them. Someone said Hybe should make them collaborate with other hybe artists? Please no, Fromis will get drag for using their popular labelmate's clout. They're doing much better now with better budget and management. But I do like how Hybe didn't give them huge unnecessary budget for now. Huge budget equal to huge commitment, I afraid Hybe thinking this group is not profitable enough to support like GFriend and just waste their money.

    Fromis company is PLEDIS lol.


    HYBE just provide the money, connections, etc..


    In terms of music and concepts, storylines or whatever else Fromis got going on, that's PLEDIS doing.


    If Fromis was under the big hit and Source Music collab like Le sserafim, then that's a whole other story, cuz we know Fromis would be on top among 4th gen girl groups.


    Yes they're doing better than they were before, but the reason their taking long to expand widely and make any noise is cuz of the music and image of the group.

    Nothing is appealing, at least to international fans. And the music is generic and kinda samey.


    Look at NewJeans and Le sserafim under HYBE - musically and image wise...????.. They alone show you how with the right people working with them, they'll always manage to stay on top.


    Le sserafim debut album has around 440k I believe and their first comeback they hit 730k...FIRST COMEBACK.


    NewJeans debut album at 620k now and their comeback will likely be between 800k-1M.


    Blame PLEDIS for not pushing Fromis further and being more creative with them, smh...and Fromis lost a member too...

    Top ggs: Le sserafim, Kep1er, Ive, NewJeans,

    Nmixx, aespa, Itzy, (G)I-DLE, Stayc,

    Blackpink, Red Velvet, Twice, SNSD


    Clearly they are not going to break into this top of all time ranking. But I can't think of many other ggs that fromis_9 is squarely below.


    Loona, Dreamcatcher, WJSN, Oh My Girl, Weeekly, Apink.


    fromis_9 latest album outsold latest album of all these groups.

    They are less profitable than Loona and Dreamcatcher though due to those groups' multiple world tours. (The international popularity I've heard so much about)


    fromis_9 a few months ago had their first concert, 3 days in Korea and 1 day in Japan.


    Are you asking what is stopping fromis_9 from breaking into the Loona or Dreamcatcher tier? I am not sure about that, I feel like they are already there and there is demand for them to world tour if they want to (including in Japan).

    In Korea its because Idol School flopped and because of the scandal. Internationally? Its just too late to break their way into the list of top groups which is pretty stacked now. Which is a shame since they have such a solid discography.

    I think it is just too many competitions and it will keep going that way for a long time. And It is mostly luck where they land on the general public radar. Like take Yunjin from LSSR, she was eliminated and went back to the states for a year and all of a sudden got a call to be in a group from Hybe, crazy luck. She's also very talented too so great that it worked out.


    Visuals, vocalist, when compare to other groups, they lose out one or the other. Yes they are pretty, but other groups aren't slacker either. Seoyeon, Jiwon or Hayoung vocalist, other groups also have if not better. But since its KPOP, skills are just a nice add on lol.


    I don't think they are doing bad, just not top tier. But does every group need to be top tier though? I mean if you're long-lasting and have gigs and still sell albums constantly, I think that's a win in my book. DC worked their asses off and now they reaping profits, MMM not top tier but who doesn't know them in SK and plus they seems to be doing fairly well.

    Lesserafim hit over 800k on Gaon now, pretty insane. Their fandom is exploding. And yeah, i think New Jeans is a virtual lock to hit 900k at least for their first comeback.

    All latest release sold more than fromis_9 on Circle, that's all I based it on. (The closest is Stayc with We Need Love 256k and fromis_9 From Our Memento Box 192k)
