If BTS wins Grammys, an awkward issue might arise

  • BTS should just get enlistment over with ASAP and then they will never have to hear about it again. They should all serve together ASAP because the world is getting scary and I wouldn’t trust North Korea, China, or Russia to not escalate in the near future. TBH, I always thought they should’ve served during the pandemic, it was the best time for it.

  • There is no clear cut leader among the 4th Gen and they do need a leader who had a long time dealing with the 3rd Gen

And the Senior Singer knows she is aging and she will not refuse a chance to exert her power among the newer gen of KPop

So it will be an alliance of convenience. First destroy Hybe and then decide who is the boss later

  • If this grammy gets them exemptions, concerts will resume within 3 months. K-O-R-E-A had a wierd law where male idols cannot leave K-O-R-E-A for more than a certain period (which is negotiable but by a case by case basis) , making world tours difficult and making female idols more lucrative than before.

That will put BTS back to the world map, and make people like Lee Jieun go back to their dungeons.

  • Would a Grammy award do that or the fact that BTS just hauled $900 million dollars into the Busan economy for the Expo Bid make them rethink their No exemption policy

The point the conservative politicians were picking up was that things like concert size, billboard awards and other things are not 'objective' enough to become a criteria.

But a Grammy is an objective criteria which would qualify, and quieten the naysayers.

The current President of Korea is now in a weak position, and things would have changed by next year and a Grammy will probably quieten all the naysayers. It is no different than the guy who won the Chopin piano competition and received a military exemption, or someone who is serving in the military sports team and wins a medal in the Olympics. The money doesn't really matter - the reactionaries wanted a nail to hang, and a Grammy becomes the nail which provides the rationale because the guy who won the Chopin piano competition did get the exemption.

  • woah so immediate discharge from the military is a thing too

These mandatory enlistment laws are very difficult to navigate

Yes. No different from a guy in a military sports team who wins a medal in the Olympics. His service ends thee.

It will take time for the politicians to set laws up for the exemption after the Grammys in February so Suga might serve for a few weeks, but the rest will only see 4 weeks of training.

It was when they attained their biggest popularity

If they were in the military back then they would have been forgotten by now while Lee JIeun would have run around like a wild bull in a bull ring

2020 indeed was their peak and among all other unfortunate things, Covid prevented them from capitalizing on that peak.

In the bullring that is the digital charts of Korea, that particular cow is supreme - BTS or not, Covid or not, exemption of not.

uh, you have to take into consideration that bts had a world tour planned during that time. they were holding out hope that the pandemic would end and that they would still be able to tour well into 2020. i had tickets for one of their u.s shows and it was not canceled until August 2021. no one could have predicted how long covid would last. and honestly releasing dynamite and butter made the best out of it.
