the only reason i have insta is so we can keep up with each other (she was the one who encouraged me to get an acc in the first place). we can only communicate through it because i moved away from our hometown and can't just drive back and forth... the only reason i have it is for her, it's not a matter of social media itself...

Seems a bit restrictive to me. She doesn't have a phone number that you can text? How about Discord? Or email?
There are always other options. And friends find a way.

Nope, I have it. I just use it to check Twice and Blackpink updates and that's literally it. And most of the time, I have other ways to get those things like here, Twitter and Reddit, so I don't really use it. I guess I don't like the way the layout feels.
So I don't use it enough to know much about it LOL

Here me out...when you follow positive Twice fan accounts, your feed is literally all wholesomeness. Sometimes I just like to scroll through there. I also don't use Reddit often, it's basically only for updates or questions that I have about something because those get answered there most of the time and the people on there are SMART.

we used discord in the past. the problem isn't really that we don't have a way to communicate - instagram works well as a texting service. we can always talk, she just seems to choose not to... even though she does look at the stuff that i upload. it just feels like that she wants to look into my life, but doesn't actually seem to want to be in it? is what i'm trying to say ig.

Trying to force a friendship to be on your schedule, to have those types of expectations, can ruin it. It could mean you want to be closer friends than she does, it could mean that she has a different definition of what close friends are.
You either have to talk to her about it, or re-evaluate what you define friendship as. Keep in mind that things change naturally over time too.
