Is Irene still an it girl

  • Bestie i have to disgree with most of ur points since its false imho

Jennie is the it girl and has a daesang to prove it https://mobile.twitter.com/UsB…tatus/1345476244205400065

Lisa isnt even as big as jisoo since we are talking abt korea here

Its jennie and hwasa first followed by irene and jisoo then the rest

Overall(nationally and internationally) no one comes to bp members cuz all of them are ambassadors. Jisoo for beauty and fashion(dior),rosé is a global ambassador for ysl, lisa global ambassador for celine and mac(shes the top it girl overall) and lastly nini global ambassador for chanel. Jennie will inherit it imo since she already bagged two of the most legendary cfs(soju and that vitamin c drink) but anything can happen.

Ay np. I agree with you. I was just generally saying. Hwasa is more like the hyori with music and variety and jennie is going to be the suzy cf queen type.

None of them, not even suzy, are even close to IU tho, she currently has fourteen active deals/endorsements.

Bruh if we include IU then nobody is eligible for it girl title except IU T.T

Oh yeah...she gives out badassery vibes like lee hyori too. Suzy has solos too right?i honestly dont know :eyes:music wise both share the girl crush type of image with hwasa having a little hint of sexiness

Isnt iu the nation's little sister or something

  • Isnt iu the nation's little sister or something

IU was called the "nations little sister" 10-12 years back or so, while suzy was "nations sweetheart" or something like that.

As IU will become 29 this year, and is called "noona/unnie" by a huge chunk of her fans the title doesn't really fit anymore.

There have been several before them called that or other variants.

Its not any official titles and it seems to mostly have fallen out of use these days. I think it was mostly used by newspapers/tv to play up the importance of people. Ifans have placed more importance on it than probably should have with these nations # titles, like nation bg/gg etc.

Yep! Suzy had solo's but she was more well known as an actress, nation's first love and cf queen and all. She became popular after her role in architecture 101 and the rest was history. I thought irene would inherit it cuz she had that pure sm image but looking at how the same brands that went after suzy and hyori are clamouring after jennie she's most likely gonna be the one who will take the title for this gen. I've got my eyes on Jisoo as well cuz snowdrop is a big project and girlie has auditioned with serious actresses and was talented enough to get chosen over them for such a big series.

  • Thanks for the info bestie....nah she looks young enough to be called that. Its all gucci :pepelove2: as long it isnt by the president, its pretty much not official

Yup we love a multi-talented queen. Irene was close to being her successor tho.

Jennie has the certain aura that is hard to resist

If all turns out well jisoo will eclipse nini. Im worried abt the akgaes tho :pepe-peek:

  • no, maybe some people individual opinions of her have not wavered but....

she won’t ever get acting and mc jobs the same way

she won’t ever get modeling and cf jobs the same way

she won’t be respected in the music community the same way

she only has a fraction of the influence that she did before, and way less respect

she’s widely disliked now. even if some people still love her, she’s controversial. and in korea, controversial people don’t get to build their careers out of their controversy like in the US. she’ll just slowly be dropped until she’s forgotten.

she lost her it-girl status the DAY those accusations came out.

  • But didn't a lot of sponsors pick her back up?

  • I think we have to wait and see with their Comeback, but right now yes, cause after her scandal and with all the sponsors she lost, they literally re-hired her once the hate died down. That alone indicates how hard these businesses want to work with irene, and I'm sure they could care less about her attitude truth be told, so long as she looks good it'll always attract customers

  • When it comes to K-pop, there are a number of terms that are primarily used only by K-pop fans and that are essentially meaningless due to their vagueness.

'It girl' is one of those terms: there are no actual stats or other objective metrics attached to it, there's no general criteria that people collectively agree upon, so what everyone does is tagging their own biased projections on the term 'it girl', based on their own guts and subjective preferences.

Which makes it no different from like how in the past people stated with dry eyes that SNSD and Super Junior sucked at singing and that Bom was the best vocalist - and entire flocks of K-pop fans bandwagon believed it, before objective vocal analysis became a thing.

As for Irene, her popularity has been pretty good, in recent years she acquired multiple luxury brands like Prada and Damiani as endorsements as well as huge, massively popular brands like the #1 alcohol brand Chamisul Soju. She has also hovered regularly in the tops of popularity/recognition listings as Gallup and other brand awareness rankings, and the article below is a nice example of how much viral impact and influence Irene had in South Korea:

5 brands the "Irene effect' made Korea obsessed with :suggestiver:

A kinda funny/ironic thing, I know for a fact that several hardcore Irene antis vehemently dismissed Irene's big brand endorsements and high popularity rankings - until their own biases gained the same brands and high popularity rankings ^^ (the blatant hypocrisy, lol :rolleyes1: )

Will Irene, however, still be able to maintain or gain #1 top levels of popularity? Hard to say right now, Irene has been keeping low profile and been busy with her movie. We'll learn more as the year progresses, and when Red Velvet have had their comeback.

What we do know, is that the scandals in K-pop that Koreans care about, isn't the same as the scandals that ifans care about, and that what Pann/Nate netizens explode about isn't representative of what Korean general public cares about: when SNSD were having the highest popularity percentages in K-pop ever and among Koreans, SNSD got structurally and regularly burnt to the ground on Pann/Nate (as well as international forums).

    So, in short:

'it girl' is, due to its vague job description, one of those empty container terms common in K-pop to be used and abused by the loudest, most vocal K-pop stans whenever they feel like hijacking it for their bias boosting.

Whether Irene's fame and popularity in South Korea has diminished, maintained or gained, we'll learn in the course of this year, when Irene and Red Velvet'll have their activities and comeback.
