I always compared her to somebody in the UK side, like Wellington, Nelson or Castlereagh.

That aside, as long as Korean population supports her, it is unlikely that she will meet a 'waterloo'.

That is because she is not a conquering singer; she stayed in Korea mostly, dealing with one Kpop act famous around the world after another, but didn't really leave Korea to battle giants in other country.

In the sense, she is more like Yi Sunsin (Lee Sunshin), a character she actually played before, or Vo Nguyen Giap. Yi battled Japanese but all in Korean waters, and Giap fought the Japanese, the French and the Americans but never fought outside of Vietnam.

Both are relatively unknown outside of their home countries, but are considered as their greatest generals by their brethren. They also died undefeated. IU fighting SNSD (famous in Japan), EXO (famous in China - she did launch a campaign in China herself later, something which is poorly understood even now) and BTS (famous around the world) might be comparable to Giap's campaigns against the Japanese, the French and the Americans.

So, as long as the K-O-R-E-A-N-S support her, it is unlikely that she is ultimately defeated.

Since we are talking about Admiral Yi, there is one time he did fight in a foreign soil.

In 1587, Yi and some Korean troops were sent to an island named Nokdundo at the mouth of the Tumen river to fight some nomad incursion.

The fight was inconclusive but not a clear cut victory, and Yi and his forces were punished for failing to win. Ironically it did make Yi's name known.

The thing is, Nokdundo was part of Korea at that time, but over time it stuck with the Russian lands north of the Tumen River. Korea, and Japan which annexed it in 1910, continued to claim it but after the Japanese defeat at Nomonhan against the Soviet general Zhukov in 1939, the place firmly became part of USSR (and now Russia) to this day. So, Yi did technically fight outside of Korea (he fought on Russian soil) once in his life. Russia has cleared that place, and is keeping it vacant in case it might need a 'special economic zone' with Korea , which is unlikely for the foreseeable future given the current situations.

that might be comparable to IU's perf at Kcon in 2014 at Los Angeles, which to this day is her one and only performance outside of Asia and is likely to remain so for a long time.
