korea is misogynistic and homophobic. i've seen plenty of comments on pannchoa sharing their experiences and how one user's Korean boss told kpop is for kids, but he is willing to listen to girl groups only.
basically they think boy groups are too gay for them to listen to.
you have to be like big bang, ugly and incel-ish (so they can listen to you without being embarrased + many were pitying seungri for being caught with molka chat; them not caring about burning sun despite "PrOtEsT yG" bs and almost 1m listening to their new song), but release good songs first at least then whatever you want bc you built a name.
the last one standing is bts(all the international achievements weren't unnoticed so the gp paid attention to them) and they don't even promote on tv like the 2nd gen used to. Also they're not digital monsters like iu who will get #1 instantly.
There have been plenty of good releases from bgs and much better than ggs, but the gp drc about them anymore and i guess they established "bgs release only noise music now" reputation since i've seen netizens saying many of them do when they actually don't.

Oh, it's not about the music at all.
You think girl groups are only popular for their music?? lol. They're idols, their image matters a lot too. And girl groups, woman pop singers in general, are easier to market to a diverse audience. (Which is very important if you're an entertainment company in a country of 50 million with a ridiculously oversaturated entertainment industry.) Many men tend to dismiss boy groups for two reasons: one, their images often conflict with toxic masculinity, two, they hate teenage girls and everything that tends to be popular among them.
Companies realised it some years into 3rd gen. That it's a lot easier to just stick to (international) fandom-oriented marketing than trying to compete with girl groups in terms of domestic recognition. Boy groups' images changed too. And as companies withdrew boy groups from the public, the public also lost interest in boy groups.
Furthermore the popularity of traditional media like TV and radio began declining over time too. Having connections and being able to send your boy group to a popular show was no longer a guarantee that they'd actually end up popular.

It depends on the field.
Male solo singers are doing very will S.Korea - LYW or Paul Kim and many names.
But when it comes to "Performative arts" - worldwide there is a preference for the female of the species, in contrast to "Sports", where the men are preferred by the audience.
In fact K-pop actually is relatively better, at least there is good space and following for the men (hence the slurs of them being effeminate.)
It is not the music that is driving this lack of BG popularity with GP, but visual/dance aspect.
Even if BG release the same type of songs as the hit GG, they will still fail with GP.
It takes a phenomenal record to change that perception - Bigbang achieved that to a good extent, hence their incredible ULs. Otherwise BGs are tied to the fandoms.

In general male pop acts are supposed to be catered to girls so they are looked down upon and not something for "normal" people to listen to. That's the only reason why even a group like BTS is still confined to their boygroup status when you look at their ULs.
I'm glad that BTS themselves have embraced it more instead of going the other way actually.

Because from the very beginning Boy groups from big agencies never appealed to GP. excluding groups like bigbang, winner (ikon & exo too) and BTS. I'll say this later why these stayed on top.
yes boy groups had hits, but only one. I can't name boy groups outside the ones I mentioned above having more than one hits or very well performing songs. they all did okay for example 2pm, super junior, beast, 2am, shinee, cnblue, infinite, block b, btob and etc. but recently bg's lost their all hype idk maybe for good, or they can regain.
why? Because their music is inconsistent. when public checks your comeback song and they like it, they continue to check it right? but if they don't like or feel disappointment with your next releases, they won't check anymore. I'm not saying this groups release bad music, just majority of people didn't like it and it didn't meet their expectations.
meanwhile groups mentioned at first, tend to be consistent - their music was always well received, they never missed, especially bigbang and then bts, winner also performed well, two hits, bside hit and famous members. ikon tanked after scandal but until scandal they did soo well. exo had also hits like growl, love me right, their winter releases were always doing well. after some time these groups also kinda fell, because they changed their music kinda and military and everything happens.
as for BTS, I need you exploded and then bs&t happened also they became veery popular overseas so Koreans ofc checked them, liked them. BTS also never failed and always released good songs.
meanwhile, girl groups have always been consistent, releasing hits after hit, national or not, they never missed. so imo public trusts them more.

I have seen more males liking movies and collecting dvds, watching cartoons such as rick and morty, simpsons, hell even when I was at highschool male students loving my little pony cartoon

idk astrology, cause I literally have no knowledge of astrology, I havent seen anyone being much interested with it
for boygroups, yeah they like it less, but they still like rock boybands, it just pop boygroups they dont like. One of the reason maybe there are so many crazy fans for pop boygroups, esp in kpop "saseangs", it turns off many people to be interested. Second reason is I feel like its just jealousy by males. They are just jealous that bunch of pop boys getting attention from females that they cant get. So they hate pop boygroups.

Except for saseangs let's call it what it is. Bc Ggs have those stalker fans too. But we know the reason why pop bgs are different. It's because they are for the "girls".

It works both way. If a woman gets plastic surgery, she will be stoned like she wore the face of the devil. If a man does it, no one cares. BGs can dance and take off their shirt, and be salivates after. GGs will get criticize no matter what outfit they wear.
GGs are generally more easy on the eyes. Girls like looking at girls and girls like looking at guys. Guys like looking girls. Non-romantic. Women are prettier in general. Also, a girl fan might be divided between a BG or a GG, a boy fan will only focus on GG, and his games.
