What music genres has kpop not used yet that could be cool?
-
-
If you define genres broadly like "rap" and "edm", then every genre has been used. Subgenres haven't, most likely.
Like there were countless EDM kpop songs when it was released, but Side Effects was the first psytrance kpop song iirc.
As for an answer: I'm sure the majority of metal subgenres haven't been used and likely won't be any soon.
-
Other then like a Jazz style I cannot think of a main gerne that would be a good mix with kpop - loads of sub genres within the EDM space to pick from though.
---
Done before
But really I just want a full time Orange Caramel / WJSN CHOCOME style group, they really bring the random / fun back into kpop
WJSN CHOCOME are currently active but they are just a sub group. 3 to 5 girls being larger then life doing wacky shit would be really refreshing.

So far, we've only gotten the goth metal of Dreamcatcher, the 90s-00s emo rock of TXT, and the pop punk rock of Gidle and Yena.
And while each of the groups has produced some great content, Kpop has not generally used the RIGHT kind of rock. I'm talking classic, arena, and hair metal rock music of the 70s and 80s and early 90s from legendary bands and acts like Bruce Springsteen, Poison, Bon Jovi, Heart, U2, Journey, Meatloaf, Def Leppard, Whitesnake, and hundreds more.
We need anthemic choruses, catchy rhythm guitar chords and riffs, and soul piercing electric guitar solos.

The only DC song i've ever liked is Scream, it was a SOTY contender and really stood out.

That said, Psy's old enough to have stanned Freddie Mercury; the younger generations of producers, who've grown up on Kpop, might not have heard classic rock and therefore wouldn't know to emulate it.

This song was okay but it was for a webtoon I think, not a real comeback tho they ended up promoting it in music shows so we could call it a comeback. They recently teased their first full album so I have hope there will be atleast a song or two in the Poison / Fantasy vibe.
