Kakao M, "We wanted to extend our intl. contract with Spotify, but they declined"

spotify will be fine is kakaom that will suffer the most and the artists
-
i mean, kakao m not wanting to make the music of these artists available on korean spotify in the first place is weird to me. people aren't going to start using melon again just bc they cant get these songs on spotify if thats what this is about....

Kakao want more money but spotify declined is what im getting .

Kakao own Melon, which is one of the biggest music services in Korea. It probably wasn't about wanting more money from spotify as much as it was trying to protect Melon's market share.
Of course, if you deliberately piss off your users, they might not use your platform anyway, and might go to something like Apple or Tidal instead, so we'll see how well that works out for them in the end.

Spotify should have wanted Kakao M artists on Spotify Korea, but Kakao M should not have accepted and wanted to renew the contract under the old conditions. Spotify rejected
-
it sound to me like 10 years old kid arguing and playing blame game lmao
-
Spotify just checkmated kakaoM. Spotify won’t lose revenue just because they lost users in SK. They are too big for that. On the other hand I think kakao M might have to cave in because their artistes will come raging. Already Epik High seems pissed

Kakao M should have done that as their distributer. They are basically the logistics of music and they should have warned their artists.

Kakao is trying to protect their position in Korea's streaming market by throwing the artists who have distribution deals with them under the bus. They screwed up, since the international users/streams Spotify would lose are miniscule in the grand scope of things, while the bad publicity, worsening of relations with the artists who they are distributing and possibly companies switching to other distributors has a much bigger impact on Kakao.
Is this even legal? In some cases companies who own whole economic chains like this are forced to sell parts of themselves because its against anti monopoly laws.
-
Poor KakaoM, they can’t be the sole monopoly anymore
-
Kakao m doesn't 2ant Spotify play the songs in Korea, at the same time kakaoM wants to have the license for the songs to be distributed internationally through Spotify..
N on the other hand its good if other artist come out of kakom n use other distribution labels in Korea.. As melon didn't artist the streaming amount.. N has debt of 10 million dollars n also their ceo in Jail..this has been going on since 2018..whuch is y sm, JYP, BH created dreamus n had their rights with themselves

spotify pay how much to the artist?
Depends on how much the subsription costs in the country streams are coming from and what the ad rates are.
"What you'll earn per song, and how to get paid more for your music. Spotify generally pays between $.003 and $.005 per stream, meaning you'll need about 250 streams to make a dollar."
More than Melon, which was 0.
