Do you consider selling online a "real" job? My parents won't accept that and they keep telling me to get a job outside

  • I figured I should provide something for the context, because if I didn', chances are people always ask. But yeah I didn't give any link.

  • That's how Jeff Bezos become the richest man in the world at some point by selling things online.

they were selling books online...then they bough all the online stores doing it, then more stores that sold other stuff. That is amazon now.

Plus the rest of the millions stores that are affiliated to it and pay a fee.

He's making money while doing nothing.

Now I call that a life.

The most of millionaires earn money while doing nothing. That is called passive income. Why work for money if money can work for you?

  • A job is many things,

    1. First and foremost, it should provide income and livelihood, which in your case it does.

    2. Then it needs to give you opportunities to learn new skills and grow in ability/capacity, that might be tough to do with online selling ALONE.

    3. Then it is about building contacts and trust networks, online sucks bad at that. People are drastically different in person vs. online., when it comes to interactions and trust-building.

When we are young, there is a tendency to underestimate the 2nd and 3rd factors, but experience (which your parents have), teaches the wisdom of them.

If your online sales is doing very well, I would suggest you look for other avenues to grow on the 2nd and 3rd factors and evidence them to convince your parents.

  • As a guy who did very well in sales the difference between a job and a scam is are you making money and is it legal. I've sold everything door to door but vacuums. I did extremely well selling security systems. But I know how you feel. My mother, ex-wife, sisters always treated me like I was an unemployed loser, even when I was bringing in over 5k/mo... You do you. I loved sales in the beginning but later found out I just didn't have the mental fortitude for it. I ended up suicidal and with a major drug problem but that's just me.
