locked myself and the doggos up in the house with the AC on.
Gov has announced code red for heatwaves and that there will be less oxygen in the air today and tomorrow.

In the uk we’re kinda infamous for having shitty wearing. Cold harsh winters, wet summers with maybe a couple weeks total of hit sunny weather.
Where I live it’s currently been 38C for the last few hours. To put that into perspective 38C used to be counted as the hottest temperature ever recorded in the UK in a single place. Now many parts of the country are reaching casually reaching that temp. Parts are likely going to hit 40C.
The worst part is we aren’t equipped to deal with these extreme weather shifts. Houses aren’t built with AC in mind because like I said the UK is known for having shit mostly cold weather. We haven’t invested in proper flood management so often during spring and winter heavy rainfall leads to flooding on parts. And nowadays winters are very harsh, regular heavy snow basically grinds the country to a halt. Combine that with out of control energy prices and covid possibly making a CB then a lot of people are going to die or get extremely ill
And this is just us, there other counties that have it worse than us with monsoon floods, hell on earth heat waves, famine, blizzards and so on. We’re fucking the planet and our selves over.

gonna be that american that noses into everything
but in socal it was like that from the start haha
Remember to wear sun screen and drink more water than you think you need!
being mindful of caffeine intake helps immensely too. If your mouth feels the slightest bit drier than normal, the next sip should be water, not coffee or tea. ( trust me, being dehydrated can make you feel really sleepy! drinking coffee on top of that is not good!)
(also is it true that a lot of european places don't have a/c? its unheard of in my area to not have a house with A/C because over here it can regularly hit 30+ degrees from spring to fall.)
Also this is a sign to be lazy. do the bare minimum. if you over exert yourself ya gonna feel irritable and weird for a good few minutes to a few hours, depending on the person. (this one's optional, usually only reserved for REALLY HOT DAYS (40+ degrees))

Thanks for the tips! Didn't know about the caffeine thing, that explains why I was pretty sleepy recently during hot days.
And regarding AC, yes it's rare to see houses with AC here.

In my country, most houses don't have AC either, because historically, temperatures are not extreme. That can't be said of course for the past couple years...

ohhh huh. So this is a relatively new thing then. Kinda reminds me of Northern California where apparently they didn't have A/C either until recently
The only litmus test for southern california on heat is how bad each fire season gets lol (sadly true) but fingers crossed things get sorted before it gets worse!
