popularity has nothing to do with the number of members, if they were popular as 4, there are big chances to be popular as 3 too, sub units with 3 members were extremely popular like TTS, Orange Caramel, CBX, also one of biggest ggs in Korea was S.E.S which had 3 members

Not only that, groups in general are short lived and sometimes idols just want to move on with their lives, merry, go acting, etc
One membereaving is enough to disband the group, and honestly there isn't really how to cover the members who left in therms of talent and presence
A 4 members groups are always in danger of not finishing even their first contract, that's why I personally avoid 4-5 members groups

BEG begs to differ.

Why not? It's not like another member couldn't do their raps for them or sing their parts...it would only really matter if it was the most notable voice of the group, but that is a problem regardless of having 4 or 10 members. If that voice is removed from their songs the group loses it's image and sound in a way.
It's not like for most groups the members actually do anything beyond sing or rap a part the producers gives them, sure it would be a popularity hit to lose a member, but this is the same for any group right?
