Opinion on tipping and tipping culture

We dont tip.

Most restaurants have a built in 10% service charge here.

Generally we don't tip. I've never done it except abroad. It can be a thing in fancier restaurants, especially in the bigger cities, but even then it's rare. Though I read an article saying it was slowly starting to become more common in the capital.

Personally I'm against it. Waiters should have a living wage and not be dependent on tips. If they need a 30% tip add that price directly to the menu. If the tip is mandatory it's the same thing anyways.

Yeah, tipping culture is not common here (I'm from an Eastern European country) but it's slowly crawling here too. My ex was a waiter and I remember him bitching that some clients didn't give him a generous tip lmao.

I rarely tip. If I go to a restaurant or a coffee shop I'm going to eat and for a drink, not for the server to entertain me. Just give me my order and leave me alone.

I doubt many restaurant managers in my state would want to pay their waiters a living wage be it out of greed or because they would sink. The cost of living is so high that quite a few places just can't afford to and my state is the lowest! We need to deal with the insane cost of living in the country before we deal with tipping culture

What do you get out of refuse to tip or tip less on service not satisfied with?

It should be on the employer to pay their staff a decent wage, not on the generosity of the customer. We don't tip here unless you really want too. It is in no way expected or pressured

the thing with a min wage is that it's a min because employers cannot legally pay you any less

Weird as hell, here we call it "service fee" and it's not really like the american system because it's not tied to the individual but rather to the establishment, many people ask the waiter first if the tip is going to them or not before doing it.
