Mamamoo had chart topping hits for nearly five straight years.

Mamamoo has been at the same level as BP, Twice and Red Velvet for much longer than they haven't, and off the top of my head, they've had 5 solo title tracks, 1 a collaboration with Loco, top the digital charts in Korea.

Name me another girl group that has more. I'll wait.

Let's not act like they don't have multiple chart topping hits as soloists.

I think I can safely start another conversation about NewJeans' chart dominance without getting too many exasperated sighs of annoyance.

Honestly I was just pondering a few things when it comes to what they've accomplished since their July 2022 debut.

First, has there ever been a group to never leave the Melon top 3 from their debut to their 1-year anniversary? If we lower the bar to top 10 even, has this been done before?

And with the staying power of Ditto, OMG and Hype Boy, I wonder when we will reach a period where NewJeans isn't in the Melon top 10.

Hype Boy might be a top 10 song still by the time NewJeans has their second comeback. If they keep chaining together massive hits like they've been doing, that might end up being the most untouchable record/steak in charting history.

Solely based on everything, including music, it will always be Mamamoo~

Weird comparison to make. All five groups were easily the most successful and dominant of the 3rd generation. No need to revise history to fit a narrative.

What?

Mamamoo was competitive with all the other top girl groups of their era, specifically in digital performance, at the peak of their powers. So I don't get why you compared them to APink, when people are claiming the latter wasn't a top 5 group of their generation.

It's highly questionable to single out Mamamoo. They've gone head-to-head with both Blackpink and Red Velvet (2016 and 2017 respectively), and went 4 straight years with a group or individual release hitting #1 on the charts.

I know you likely just threw that comment in at the end of your overall point, but I'm just personally tired of people insinuating Mamamoo wasn't a legitimate top tier girl group at the height of their powers.

GFriend would be a much stronger comparison, given they also had a huge 3-hit combo of songs (Glass Beads, Me Gustas Tu, Rough) before slowly tapering off in popularity.

To answer the thread, nothing lasts forever, but NewJeans will have a very long career as long as the members continue to avoid major scandal, stay true to themselves and their management continues to hit home runs.

I think this is a legitimate question.

Ditto is hitting a new milestone literally every day since its release, and has put up numbers that may statistically not be matched for a long long time, even by NewJeans...but Hype Boy though!

It has been six months and Hype Boy is still sitting at #3 on every single domestic chart, becoming somewhat of a damn national anthem and is easily the most covered song from 2022.

I'm having a hard time choosing. It's crazy that NewJeans has a song hitting all the big impact chart milestones and a song hitting all the major chart longevity milestones at the same time.

Unless OMG rises again on YT, Ditto could get to 700+ hours. And if no song for the rest of February really challenges NewJeans, this could get REALLY scary hours.

I proudly wear my Mamamoo swag anywhere when I'm in the mood, and one time I was fully Mamamoo fitted on a trip to the corner grocery store.

As I checked out, the cashier looked at my shirt, paused and asked:

"Are those the Spice Girls?"

Mind you, my shirt was a graphic t with the four faces of Mamamoo covering the entire front side of the shirt.

I then politely explained who they were, but it didn't make the miscue any less hilarious.

I've also bumped into several K-Pop fans, and even Mamamoo fans, who would've otherwise never revealed that to me if I wasn't wearing the K-Pop swag, so you never know where fellow fans may be lurking.

Life is too short to be ashamed of your passions and hobbies, friends.

I was going to make a XG thread and still might....but absolutely their rap line blew me away completely. I went into their cypher blind after a friend asked if I ever heard of them (I hadn't), and it was next level.

Especially Cocona. You know you had fire bars when the rapper whose beat you sampled has to shout you out on his socials.

My main takeaway here is that NewJeans is in very good hands.

Strictly going by the numbers? Yes.

What's happening to Twice's digitals, given their status, is surprising, but I don't think it should be compared to Mamamoo.

Different groups experience momentum loss for different reasons.

Mamamoo's reason is that they spent an entire year and change doing solo activities, and they only had one very tiny release in 2022, with a song that at least charted but didn't hit with the public and fell. It happens.

Otherwise, they are enjoying the benefits of not being a group that relied on 1 or 2 trendy songs, because they put in the work to build up their fandom and are currently on a world tour that fans have been waiting years for.

Moonbyul just won a vocal competition show for rappers, Hwasa just got her own talk show, Solar is still one of most popular K-Pop youtubers and Wheein's songs generally perform well, so I think they're fine going into year nine.

More like a certain demographic is starting to overdo it with fabricating silly reasons to shade and bash NewJeans.

That jealousy and insecurity is more transparent than you realize.
