The only thing we need to wait on is more songs.

Other than that, while you can find their stages boring, there are plenty of people who think the exact opposite. And some of those people have experienced their stages in person to validate those thoughts--yours truly being one of them.

Lollapalooza was a massive accomplishment for a group that hadn't even turned a year yet. I can speak from personal experience that all of the people at that stage had been cooking in the sun for hours. I'm talking standing together, packed in like sardines in a can, watching people pass out from heat exhaustion, while artists with years of experience over NewJeans went through their sets.

It wasn't a K-Pop event either; it was the second biggest music festival in the states, and the headline act for that particular stage was Billie Eilish.

Despite all this, when NewJeans finally did take the stage, this magic happened:

I think it's safe to say we don't need to worry about their stage presence or ability to enthrall their audience.

Oh please. This "boring group of performers" tag is a fake narrative being pushed by insecure, jealous fans of groups, who are triggered over the scale of NewJeans' many accomplishments so early into their careers.

What they have achieved both domestically and internationally is completely unassailable, so people will find other subjective ways to attack them, accusing them of having "weak vocals" or "no stage presence", with very little to support those opinions other than "it's just my opinion lol"

I've seen over a dozen, if not more, girl group stages in person. That list includes: Twice, BlackPink, Mamamoo, I*Zone, Itzy, fromis_9, Loona, Momoland, and yes, NewJeans.

At no point did I ever feel disappointed by NewJeans in comparison to those other groups, and their Lollapalooza set is some of the most fun I've had at any K-Pop event I've been to. It's kind of hard to get over 70,000 people vibing to your music and singing all the lyrics, if you have no stage presence.

For months, I saw people claiming "their music just won't hype people up in a concert or arena venue", and then I personally experienced an extremely hyped up crowd at Lolla for their entire set.

I think we need to find a new fake narrative to attach to NewJeans in 2024.

ADOR is the best run label in the industry, and it's not even close. SM paid a consulting firm millions to study how NewJeans became so successful so fast, for crying out loud.

The team behind NewJeans, not just Min Heejin herself, seem to be lightyears ahead of their competitors in terms of their marketing strategies and the artists they collaborate with to create the concepts and music we all associate with NewJeans.

They're a dream team. We'll see if they can keep the momentum going.

I will give a special shout out so Source, because they finished 2023 strong, and I still think LSF's U.S. promo is the best any girl group has ever had.

in my experience of living in Korea for 9+ years, it's Gee. Even my 7-8 year old students know Gee somehow.

You're an insider then! Which groups do you see the most around Korea in terms of CFs, Billboard Ads and Music?

I prefer to look at SNSD as the Bill Russell of the girl group revolution, with Twice and BlackPink being Magic and Bird, and now NewJeans is Michael Jordan :pepe-use-head:

imma need some reciepts for yama.... also are they new? i dont recall them

Don't you ever "I don't know her" ever again. I'm kind of a big deal. Okay? ;judgingpepe:

But seriously. I would've been a regular on AKP years and years ago, but OH was the biggest pond during the entirety of 3rd gen so that's where I was most active, even if ISaidISaid likes to pretend I was nugu :skull:

And I'm also not new. I periodically posted here on an account I forgot the credentials for, to defend Mamamoo. I remember always arguing with one Red Velvet fan.

Seeing things every where is just promo either paid by fans or by company. I feel “people” don’t care about kpop the way they used to including GG’s.

Let’s agree to disagree I guess. Lol.

I think gee will continue to be named the “biggest” kpop hit even 10 year from now.

What also influenced my "generational gaps" take is a YT video I watched of two different groups of K-Pop fans doing a "Guess That Song" game--one group was people in their 30s and the other was 3 high school kids.

I was shocked how some iconic songs that aren't that old to me weren't instant guesses by the kids....and likewise, the 30somethings couldn't instantly identify top songs from today.

There is going to be a whole generation of fans who grew up doing Hype Boy dance challenges or copying the meme.

We can agree to disagree, but I'm not really trying to argue with you. It's just my perspective on it.

I've been to Seoul twice, and while that doesn't give me any leg to stand on compared to people actually living there, at least in 2017 and 2018, K-Pop was literally everywhere.

Even in 2018, I was able to film and upload a video of all the times I heard just Mamamoo songs on the streets.

And based on what people who live there currently have said, NewJeans and IVE are absolutely everywhere. And if you look at my Circle Digital Year-End thread, we have actually never seen girl groups occupy so many top song rankings.

Heck, traditionally big name soloists and groups not labeled K-Pop, like Dean, Heize, Melomance, Epik High, to name a few, didn't make nearly the same impact chart-wise as they did in years prior, while the girls...

I agree on boy groups though. LOL. 4th gen has been pathetic compared to all the previous generations.

Girls generation had the ability to pull some of the highest tv ratings ever for their performances. A hit by them feels much bigger than anything 3rd or 4th gen have done in kpop.

I don’t think relevance like that even exists any more.

This answer will probably always be heavily influenced by demographic, like a Gallup poll.

In 10 years, maybe the overwhelming majority would say Cheer Up or D4. In 15 years, I bet a lot of people would say Hype Boy or Ditto.
