I think the title of this OP is BS, but yeah, Cheshire flopped digitally on all fronts.
I don't agree with most of the takes in this thread. Sneakers was totally an ITZY song, and it was much like Dalla Dalla and ICY. Cheshire COULD have been an ITZY song if the chorus was stronger and choreo more eye catching. They lost international attention because the attention of international fans was taken by IVE, New Jeans, LSFM, Aespa (to a lesser degree) and IDLE. Plus, i-fans thought Sneakers was childish (same thing was said about Dalla Dalla mind you).
Like I said in the last thread that discussed this, JYPE tries too hard to appeal to both the West and Korea/and does not know how to at the same time, and going back and forth killed their momentum on both sides. They also refuse to do individual promotions, and just look at New Jeans, IVE, and LSFM, all of them are snatching up the big name brand deals, INDIVIDUALLY. I think every member of New Jeans has a luxury brand deal. That's how you build individual brand power that ultimately helps the group (we learned this from BP and Twice -oof I hate to say it- and are now seeing it play out with ITZY too).
ITZY can come back. Red Velvet is a great example of a GG that has gone through valleys of flopping (don't think they ever flopped as hard a Cheshire though lmao) and coming back stronger. ITZY can do it too. All it takes is a good song and deciding what direction they want to take, which I don't know if JYPE knows what either of those are anymore lmao. Going from MITM to Loco to Sneakers to Cheshire is wild af. All (except Cheshire) are good songs imo, but released in the wrong order at the wrong time. Stop trying to release Korean GP songs and then Western focused songs, and release GOOD music with ITZY's overall identity in mind. I thought ITZY's long ass hiatus before Sneakers was them spending time reconfiguring their approach (then Sneakers did well in Korea so I was hopeful), but then they dropped Cheshire and I was back confused again.
Maybe it is time for JYPE to demolish their whole, different groups/different teams idea. Not sure if it's working anymore. NMIXX and ITZY both releasing Alice in Wonderland themed comebacks one after the other with ZERO correlation was damning. Then again, JYPE did say they care more about album sales than digitals (and ITZY's growing in that aspect), so maybe they don't gaf as long as they get their money lol.
Either way, flop or not, I'm along for this ride LMAO.
