They do have a lot of token stans, and the discussions around them are always so weird because people think it's okay to sexualize idols just because they are not minors.
But I don't think they are really overrated. It's not like 'Bad News' had extraordinary reception, but overall their discography is quite good so far. And they are great performers who are not afraid to actually get the crowd going instead of sticking to the same rehearsed Inkigayo-style choreography.

Yes a BLACKPINK thread, how original. I've seen at least a few users on here say this and it's something that's always being tossed around by non-blinks. I'm wondering how many people actually believe this. As a BP stan, I do acknowledge that they were lucky with the boom of streaming and especially got a huge boost with their comeback during covid time. So luck and timing were definitely a part of it but I don't think the biggest part.
But I've always felt their success was mostly due to the members and the music. You could not just replace the girls with another group and still see the same success. Lisa, Jennie, Rose, and Jisoo are special and I don't imagine we will see anything like them again. Do any non-blinks agree with this? or just think it was all luck and timing?

If I'm going to stan a group and follow their content and socials and invest in their albums, visuals matter to me a LOT. i think I take it too seriously nowadays. Reason being, I like pretty things. I like things that my eyes find appealing and nice to look at.
There's a ton of groups I listen to casually without really caring about the members. The reason I don't full on stan these groups is because I'm not a fan of their visuals, even if I like their music
What are your thoughts?
Let's be honest, it's k-pop, it's more than just a music. Of course, visual matters, but not only visual. The idol has strong and weak sides. A blend of them causes to stan or not to stan. Some idols use their talents, other ones their charisma. It's different reason every time. Sometimes idol has the outstanding advantage in something that will cover her weaknesses.
For example, Billlie Tsuki is not the best singer, rather a weakest one in the group, but she is a good dancer and a comedian. Also, her visual is quite unusual like an alien, plus she can do facial expressions. Those advantages cover her disadvantages.
