Um. I've been a Big Bang fan since 2012. I think I know how big MADE era was.
Someone already spoke on it, but you do realize that Melon is just losing ULs to other digital platforms, like Spotify and especially Youtube Music, right? Those users aren't just swearing off all music and ascending into the cosmos--they're using other music streaming platforms.
So you would almost be on to something if NewJeans wasn't dominating those other streaming platforms too.
They can't hop in a time machine and release music in every single year since K-Pop's inception to satisfy the people who insist on diminishing their accomplishments at every opportunity, so our only option is to contextualize their achievements and impact as best we can.
Why don't we try a different angle.
K-Pop is more competitive and over saturated than it's ever been before, and it's much harder to stand out AND stay relevant.
It's funny. Before NewJeans completely took over, all I saw were people sarcastically scoffing at 4th gen GG fans, mocking them as success stans who jump from group to group chasing the next shiny new toy, and that it would surely happen to NJ too, like it did to all the other "next top girl groups in K-Pop".
Now that NewJeans is still shattering expectations and setting records, the narrative has shifted to they only have staying power because of the era they're in.
I wonder where the goalposts will move next.
I'm convinced NewJeans could get a #1 hit song on the Billboard 100, that maintains its position for 10 weeks, and people would STILL say "Not impressive! Couldn't have done that in 2016!"
I'm not sure what the rest of your message has to do with anything I've posted or argued, but you lost the plot clearly, because I never said NewJeans is the biggest group ever.
This topic is about their debut/rookie year, so why the hell are we talking about MADE anyway? That was literally 8 years after Big Bang's debut.
Bruh.
