    That’s true, it’s the year for girl groups it seems. When Exo was active, awards were still being split between all the big names, like there was no outright one group dominating, ahhh I remember those days lol 😂 I blame BTS, they’ve dominated every award since 2019 as no one has came close to their numbers, since the BWL era. Although without them or another big act, these award shows do seem to be invisible, I forgot it was on this year 😂

    It was eliminated in 2020 because it was the year that Dynamite dominated every single chart. BTS swooped every daesang, they won artist, album and song at MMA. What’s the point of giving BTS record as well when they won song lol, hence why it was deleted, there was no close second to Dynamite in terms of a hit song. But NCT Dream winning this is laughable, Gldle or IVE should have gotten it…..or that male artist that all the grandmas like…..

    While SM and Hybe sit in their rented floors of their headquarters YG is sitting in their $180 million 4-building complex they OWN counting all the money and revenue they have lapped JYP on while also watching their 4th gen boy group lap Hybe's in Japan, touring, revenue and sales.

    Well the big question is what was their Q3 financial figures, have they been released yet? JYP and HYBE have released theirs and saw a massive increase from previous year, not to mention JYP will be relocating to a new building soon as they’ve brought the land for it. If YG with BP isn’t making as much revenue and profit as JYP and HYBE (which from previous quarters looks to be the case), what’s the point of focusing on their artists, might as well pursue business ventures elsewhere. I will be surprised to see if YG doesn’t do as well as HYBE in Q3 especially given the world tour figures from BP, it will be shocking honestly 🫤

    Nah, I don’t care if I get hate for this but disappointing they got awarded a MBE. It was great they got invited and attended, they looked stunning, but what the have they actually done for the UK to deserve this. If you were an average UK citizen who saw this on the news outside of the safe cozy k pop bubble, you would be like who the fuck is this and why did they get it. Brits never take the MBE seriously because it’s always given to The Royal Family’s friends and buddies. Celebrities should be excluded really because the average common man/woman do a lot more for their communities never get recognised. Not to dampen things but they got recognised for essentially being climate change advocates…..seriously lol. Flying private jets and promoting the crap out of the fashion industry is not it!!! No wonder no one takes celebrities seriously anymore, blinks can celebrate this all they want but honestly Charles did it to score brownie points with SK. Trust kpop fans to take this as a win 👍

    Scooter Braun is utter garbage, it’s Bang’s worst decision no matter what Hybe stans or armies say…..What Braun did to TS was disgusting and look at her now, having one of her most successful year, with another year of touring to come, looking to make over 1 billion 😂 Honestly the SK people give Bang too much credit for BTS and for Hybe. BTS made this company, without them it’s nothing honestly. Bang should really kiss the ground they walk on and not throw it down the drain….

    Interesting…I was thinking about this the other day. People always say BP has a lot of casual listeners blah blah, it’s one thing blinks keep banging on about when it compares to stats. But it’s strange how low their UL is on Spotify given their streams. BP definitely rely on Fandom streaming like most K-pop groups. Like Money is the most successful song by them (well Lisa) but the peak UL was in the 20 millions….if you compare filtered vs non-filtered streams, it’s a massive margin. Would be interesting to see if YT will ever implement an UL chart……is it again just the same fans streaming and streaming again….probably YES lol. Makes me remember how niche Kpop is still 😂

    I don’t get where people get these “supposed” income from….they seem to make peanuts. Kpop idols do in general compared with their Western counter parts. BP probably makes the same as some c list celeb in the US. People should be happy they’re not renewing with YG, finally can make some real money. I mean after 7 years you see Jennie finally buy a house for $3 million dollars :/ Other than Lisa, the girls don’t see to have solid assets which meet their net worth……

    But the OP makes a good point though. The TWO biggest group in Kpop right now is singing mostly in English. The last massive successful releases from BTS was Dynamite, Butter and Seven. BP’s albums are like 90% English, if people cared for their Korean tracks why ignore their gems like Stay, Whistle, Playing with Fire but lean more towards their more popular tracks which is mostly English. I mean take Lisa’s solo for example, Money (all English) tramped on Lalisa which was the Title track…..Also wasn’t all Rose’s solo tracks in English as well!!!! I think the tone has been set that to make it global you need to sing in English, I’m sure I’ve seen somewhere that both JK and Jennie both said how they want to be viewed as pop and not have the ‘k’ attached. Also, singing in English doesn’t mean charting badly in SK, look at how Dynamite, PTD, Butter, Seven, You and I, On The Ground performed in SK, it was all good. If these two groups are examples for the younger generations, you’ll find k-pop groups singing less and less in Korean…

    BTS:


    You may love them or hate them, but their success story IS the biggest in K-pop. What they’ve fking built is unprecedented, you may never see this again, probably ever. The numbers and the value of their company don’t lie. I didn’t think they would succeed, the stigma around boy groups (fan girls seen as crazed fans but then for Girl groups, fan girls are all about being female empowerment, it’s a unfair market). Not to mention, they don’t fit your typical beauty standard for boy groups, especially in the West. Their success is through sheer effort, hard work and also a bit luck and timing (that’s life). Deserved.


    BP:


    You could really see the passion in their eyes as trainees, and the hard work they put in. Their success in k-pop is again something we might never see again. However, I personally did think they were always going to make it big and I wasn’t surprised. They had everything for the Western market, YG, Teddy, the fashion label connections, ability to speak fluent English and most importantly their visuals. Also, YG knows what it takes to make a global hit group, look at 2NE1 and BB, from expensive, visually stunning MVs to the catchy music. Lastly, their looks are perfect for the West and Asia, all the girls are beautiful, like model looks (the best I’ve seen in GG). Big reason why Little Mix never really captured the US. People don’t realise how important beauty is as a factor in the entertainment industry. I think that’s quite obvious with their instagram followings. Also, not to mention I think having fewer comebacks played in their favour, when they had more frequent song releases, like with HYLT and then LG, the second song didn’t do as well. Overall deserved success but hoping to see that passion back from them.


    New Jeans:


    I’m sure they worked hard as trainees, but now being under Hybe, it’s different. They got quite lucky with their image and music with the resurface the Y2K. I mean look at Levis, year on year success due to this as well. It’s really too soon to tell with them, as k-pop expands, only time will tell. Not sure if they’re deserving yet.

    They’ve had a lot of success under JYP, you can tell from their performances that they’ve practiced and worked hard since day one. I do feel bad for them as I think they should have gotten more love as a group from the World. With their recent releases, I just haven’t seen the same impact as their older ones. Every group has an end date. But they really did elevate JYP to another level. Deserved.
