It was never going to take off in the west. It was a fad.
This was always a ridiculous claim because it always implied some level of stability for people to follow. They did not do that as anyone who foresaw K-pop's fad status could tell you.

I haven't been unfair to BLACKPINK. If anything, I could be a lot more savage towards them to get my points across, but I've been patient, because it's already an uphill battle trying to get a reasonable and rational response from triggered Blinks foaming at the mouth in rage at the mere suggestion that BLACKPINK isn't #1 in something.
I don't see how any K-Pop veteran could EVER think BLACKPINK is more impactful than SNSD.

Not really the fault of idol-actresses. But Hollywood/West has lesser space for Asians, than Kpop has for non-Asians.
If a rare significant role comes along, those are going to actresses with sold portfolios and not idols.
Idols at best will be cast as eye-candy cameos to pull the usual fandom.

No offense, but do you know how many A-LIST actors are in Hollywood? They're the 1% of the WHOLE industry! Saying, being part of the minority means you made it, is just ridiculous!
Especially, because most of those actors in that 1% are WHITE!

A-list would be people that would be reliable box office draws. Met-Gala invites wouldn't be relevant.

No, it just means that you're on a K-pop forum.
Anyway, Blinks are confusing "success" for "impact" (which some sones were doing in the most successful thread). Blackpink haven't had any big impact on the scene. They've made no true in-roads into the west for the groups after them to pursue (that credit for finally opening a path goes to BTS, and even their impact in regards to this remains to be seen and I believe will be unsuccessful as the K-pop fad dies down in the west). They made big streaming numbers once the streaming era came on, but in an industry where fans are encouraged to mass-stream, it's not actually something to write home about. Their true bases of support are still in Asia, which is where second generation groups have already established.
They've certainly made popular the high-fashion influencer idol, someone that tried to get a lot of CFs with global brands, that we see with some groups like Meovv, but that's arguably a logical end to becoming an international group based in an area where high-end goods are sought after enough to even go into debt over.
Mate, it's her first movie promoted in the West and she (they) won the most prestigious Award in history! How is that not "making it"? She has more Kdrama trending in the West than any other Idol.
So, what is "making it" in your eyes, because I don't get these things anymore.
In my eyes, "making it" means, you got your chance in the West and you didn't flop, and IU not only didn't flop, but she won one of the biggest Award for her FIRST TRY!
Making it means being a-list. There are many actors that have won prestigious awards. They examples used in the OP are for mainstream productions in America, not Cannes darlings. The chances of IU making it in those areas is 0.
SNSD made an impact so great that people just see its effects as standard assumptions in the industry than an actual impact.
