Two idol rappers that are often brought up as being very good but never really considered top tier. Both have very unique styles and flow. Who’s the better rapper to you?

I will try to come up with a list that's both considers both skills and my own personal taste
Will do only bgs since otherwise it will take more time
Bgs 3rd gen:
1. Kai (I am a sucker for ballet so no surprises)
2. Jhope (best in street styles)
3. Ten (I dont think I have to explain him)
4. Lay
5. Taeyang from sf9 (this one is a very personal preference though, he is very captivating I can't help) and rocky (seeing him in that mnet program where they performed face covered was a huge discovery)
For 4th gen the list would be:
1. Changmin (again technically most proficient of the bunch)
2. Niki (close to changmin skill wise but I think he has to work on his presence and expressivness a lot)
3. Yeonjun
4. Wooyoung
5. Hwanwoong
If you include shotaro from nct (he does not have a unit yet though) he will be in the list too.
4th gen list is obviously weaker than 3rd bg one as of now, but I see it changing soon, both in terms of skills and maybe members.
Not bad lists. There’s several dancers from both gens that could be changed or swapped for someone else entirely, but I see your point in having room for improvement.

Right?!
He ate and blended right in with the main dancers here lmao.

Wow. They’re very very good in hip hop styles.

Got your point, I want to 4th gen to showcase more their dance skills outside of the group coreography to see how good they are. AOTM could be this opportunity, but overall all the videos that I saw had lacking choreos and didn't show the full potential of the idols.
Agree. For the most part I feel like the videos have been more about the performance aspect rather then the dance.

Itzy begs to differ
Read up on the thread for what I’ve already repeated regarding them. Itzy is definitely an exception not the standard.
-
Also one big reason as to why we can't still say mu h about 4th gen individual Dancers-
Apart from 1 or 2 most haven't yet got a chance to show their dance like 3rd gen idols solo yet like on shows like hit the stage etc, where they have to compete technically, many also will develop experience on the way and improve more..
Yeonjun from TXT constantly improves every comeback in his skills and he is already so good...imagine him few years later....
I think when given a chance to express themself in a more bigger stage dance wise, we can see a lot of surprise... Many 4th gen idols are technically better than some idols you mentioned in your post, its just that the material to judge is less... So we have to stick to some small moments to catch that and categorize.
Interesting…I’d love to hear who your top 5 or 10 4th gen dancers are and same for your 3rd gen dancers. And how would you compare the two lists?
-
Definitely. 2nd gen has some super underrated group chores as well.
-
we have standout dancers in 4th gen as well I disagree...
4th gen has a small pool of groups till now so we can't compare the number of stand out dancers with the whole of 3rd gen when 4th gen has just started only.....
In Bgs changmin from tbz is a technical standout and one of the most expressive idols, Niki is very well technically trained, yeonjun, wooyoung, are all pretty good dancers... There are probably more who are yet to be more famous and idk them maybe yet.
In gg's, chaeyeon is a huge standout as well, followed by chae and yeji from itzy, both amazing as well, also we have that main dancer girl from lightsum, she is amazing...
And this is ke probably forgetting many and being lazy while trying to list so I disagree as of now...
Atleast let half of the 4th gen debut first lol
Q and Niki are very polished. Yeonjun and Wooyoung are getting there. But do you not agree that 4th gen still has aways to go before most of them can be considered on the same level as the best? I don’t think the gap is huge, but if someone asked me to make a top 10, maybe even 20 list of best BG dancers, I don’t think I’d include any 4th gen idols. And this is from a dancer’s perspective. But it’s fair to say that all of 4th gen hasn’t debuted yet
-
I don’t think they’re weak dancers overall. But do I think the 3rd gen BG main dancers are better then 4th gen ones? Definitely. But when it comes to whole groups, I wouldn’t argue that 4th gen idols are better dancers as an average whole.
-
-
Honestly agree but I feel like 4th gen main dancers don't really try to stand out
That’s fair

I’m not sure where I said 4th gen idols can’t dance. The core of my OP is the fact that 3rd gen has way more impressive MAIN dancers on average compared to the highly touted “dance focused” 4th gen. If you think of all the best male dancers in K-pop, they’re literally from 3rd or 2nd gen in some cases.
As for girl groups, Itzy is the exception not the norm. And yes, on average 4th gen dance skills are probably higher due to more focus on dance, but most main dancers are mediocre compared to the best in the industry.
-
Who is the 3rd gen main dancer that's so great in your opinion?
There’s dozens of we’re talking about male idols, admittedly less so for girl groups.

He’s definitely one of the few I consider an exception based off what I’ve seen.

is unmistakeable.
Great performers. Their dancing is so so.
Maybe it’s just about perspective. I can agree with the average level of dancing being raised from previous gens, but 3rd gen still has the most talented main and lead dancers by a large margin on average.
