Well I have given a list of past cases. But I am not complaining if it hits the PAKjot (that is my play on jackpot+PAK).
-
Depends,
Not all IU features have topped the charts.
Some did,
It's You (Feat. IU) - Sung Si Kyung
Love Story (Feat. IU)- Epik High
Soulmate (Feat. IU) - Zico BlockB
Some even though officially Ft. IU, were entirely taken over by her and considered her songs
Not Spring, Love, or Cherry Blossoms (High 4)
Leon (Park Myungsoo)
Others not so much,
Secret Everyone Knows (Feat. IU) - Onnine Ibalgwan Sister's Barbershop
Cat (Feat. IU) - Sunwoo Jung-a
Fairytale(Feat. IU) - Kim Dong Ryul
First Winter (Feat. IU) - Sung Ki Kyung
Small Room(Feat. IU) - Sweet Sorrow
So IU alone does not guarantee a hit, but AKMU is a major act, so irrespective of the quality, the song will definitely be top#10 at least in the first few days. But whether it will PAK, we have to see.

Suga had given a song to a singer called Suran, whom we have not heard too much since then, to finish off IU after IU was badly beaten by Laboum.
Suran drove IU to the ground in her homeground Melon, and only Hyori's Homestay saved IU.
Despite of that unsavory past, because of the efforts of El Capitxn( a Hybe producer who produced some B-side songs for BTS), who is the guy who sang a line in IU's Friday, IU and Suga collaborated in Eight. So who knows.
Is that your definition of 'fighting'?
That Suga gave a song to Suran around the time, when Laboum had a dubious win in a music show - therefore Suga has something against IU.
And that makes it an unsavory past?
Your standards are extremely high, how do your friends manage?
Anyway seems IU and Suga, are not that sensitive to enmity by such remote/indirect association.

Placing her in the history of KPop, or world culture, is going to be difficult but people like her, like Chief Joseph, Pancho Villa or Robin Hood, do not easily disappear from people's mind. Lee Jieun existed in the KPop world for many years without becoming part of it, something is quite rare in anywhere on earth.
Pop, is just 'popular' music, it has no artistic definition of its own, but simply only a commercial one, any genre/mix of genres popular at a point in time is commercialized, is called 'pop'.
Kpop is distinct by 2 things - one is simply geographical-country, that it is set in Korea and other is the idol training system initiated by Lee Soo Man.
IU ticks all the criteria,
She is 'Popular' and does not dominantly belong to distinctive genres like Gugak, minyo, Jeongak, trot, Hip hop, rock , Jazz etc. but rather takes from many of them.
She is Korean,
She started out in the same idol trainee model.
Hence she is Kpop.
What is your definition of Kpop?

Lee Jieun is quite remarkable . I won't replay the whole record ; just one thing that she held the entire Kpop at bay for seven long years all by herself, a feat unlikely to be repeated anywhere on earth.
HDL used Arthdal's computer and other equipment when they were not used. Basically, if Arthdal had not been made HDL would not have been made.
There is a famous incident in Chinese movie history. The director Wong Kar-wai was filming the movie Ashes of Time with lots of stars and budget, but Wong's style was haphazard (He filmed scenes , and arranged them without context) so the stars were stuck in a wasteland until Wong felt like filming again.
Jeffrey Lau, an actor in Ashes of Time but also a movie director on his own, decided to film a quick movie using the staff and equipment Wong had assembled. So a cheap, cheesy comedy called "The Eagle Shooting Heroes" was filmed in one month; it was intended to be ridiculous and nonsensical, and it did reasonably well, and it eventually did better than the main movie "Ashes of Time" itself.
While there was a plan to film Hotel Del Luna for quite a while, without using the assets intended for Arthdal, Hotel Del Luna would not have seen the light of day. From the start it was to be an afterglow of Arthdal, although in this case the afterglow consumed the main body.
Yeo Jingoo appeared in a bunch of works but till then he did not have a hit of his own. Kim Yoojung had been quite better known for a longer period of time.
To recount her damages to Kpop, it is impossible to not remind the people about Lee Jieun's accomplishment.
Unless embedded like Ashes of time-Eagle shooting heroes, AC & HDL are not comparable. It is entirely normal business for production houses to reuse equipment, technology, even content. So seems too much of a stretch to allege that HDL would not have happened without AC.
Anyway.. peripheral topic and subjective opinion.
Planned or accidental, she has achieved good success in acting - incrementally and looks good for greater things.
As to your theory about her Kpop impact, it is an interesting thing, but can't really be proved either way - that she hampered Kpop's international spread or that Kpop would have achieved global fame faster and more, but not for her.
All I can say is Koreans and people in general, enjoy art for the pleasure it brings them and do not take into consideration the choices have on the international spread of the genre.
They might do so if emotionally involved, like the crazy ARMYs/BLINKs who stream, buy and promote, never mind whether they enjoy the song or not, it is a cult activity for them.
But the involvement is with a group or idol and not on Kpop as a industry.
Yet I reckon that IU will be long remembered in Korea, than a bunch of temporarily successful Kpop groups, simply because in human memory melodies/ballads persist across years and generations, than do bops and beats -however virally successful they are when released.

True. But it also depends on how professional of an outfit EDAM is.
After all, it seems IU has made her professional team into sort of friends.
Nevertheless if EDAM is aiming to build a portfolio of actors, Jiyeon is a good bet - actor-singer and who knows a T-ARA comeback once in a while, will bring good profits too.

Ryeo, I learn did well in China. So if at all there was a financial hurt to SBS, that could be because SBS did not get the Chinese earnings for the drama.
What is the connection between Arthdal and HDL? - Is it the same production company or anything such - given the drastic difference in genres/settings etc., I can't see how HDL reused Arthdal's material?
And Yeo Jin Goo, deserves better than to be dismissed as 'not a major star'. Sure he is not Song Joongi, yet he had done major lead roles by the time of HDL as compared to Kim Yoo Jung at the time of Moonlight.
Still good for IU, if you credit her for carrying the entire drama by herself.
You often do the opposite of backhanded compliments to IU - what is the forehanded insult :)

When you repeatedly contrast Park Bo Gum with IU, which makes no sense whatsoever given their background and roles are entirely different with dramas.. I can only take it that you are deflecting for Joongi :) - Anyway that is trivial.
As to what she does or does not... we can definitely rely on you to give a 'conspiratorial' twist to it, as her evil machination to take our Kpop.
It is always fun to read those,

Well I would like IU to Collab with Lee Jinah of Antenna.
Modern times is probably IU's music I most enjoy and it has been long since she tried that Jazz, Bossa nova genre.
Lee Jinah is a fantastic Jazz-fusion pianist recently in Kpop industry, ranked by most as a genius.
So a collab would be wonderful.
Yes it won't be the 'big' collab of famous names etc., but I hope IU feels her legacy is secure enough to bother about popularity/sales etc. and tries out such things.
And how about getting into hip-hop in a major way, after all she is the number #1 hip-hop artist in Korea, without doing any Hip-hop :)
Make the joke into reality.
-
Well the origins of Kpop as a genre itself is Western,
And Western itself is an amalgamation of multiple genres from across the globe.
The West is the largest organized music market open to outsiders,
India and China while large in population, are either too diverse, too unorganized, too culturally or don't spend enough on music, to be an attractive market.
BTS has clearly indicated in many ways, that they are trying to break into the Western market - Dynamite, Butter and PTD are clearly designed to the Western market - not just in English language lyrics, but in themes and music etc.
Media campaigns, fan campaigns to buy all are made towards that reason.
Yes, Korean fans might feel conflicted about this. In one sense proud of BTS taking on the largest dominant market and in another sense disappointed that why should BTS pander to that market with such effort.
Is it not belittling that Western recognition is sought to establish what they know already as fantastic music etc.
No easy answers to that.
What is excused for business is not excused for politics or culture. Nobody complains when Samsung does things for other markets, but culture is too close to one's identity, that there are always concerns when it is seen as diluting or flirting with others.
But one can take a longer view of history.
In music, there are always times when one regional music goes global - ABBA for example, that did not end up making Sweden the dominant force in Music, yet even today Sweden has established a reputation for great music production behind the scenes, that many across the globe use their expertise.
Many other examples, Latin Pop, Afro.
But eventually the Swedish music, Latin music or Afro did not suffer because some group at a point went global.
They gave and took influences and continued on.
That is the nature of culture.
So emotional involvement in one group, should be tempered with such rational analysis. Still majority of BTS repertoire is Korean and even if they succeed to be a mainstay in Western music, they can't afford to ignore their base in Korea.
It is strange that the similar amount of noise is not made about Justin Bieber charting in top 10 in Korean charts, but BTS scrutinized for singing in English?
In any case, Music now is a global assembly line product like phones. The label maybe Samsung or BTS, but the components, parts, process, patents etc. are spread out in a global network. So it is impractical to be fixated upon cultural ownership anyway.
We may soon have AR Rahman scoring music for Taylor Swift English lyrics to be sung by Heize with rap by Doja Cat, produced by Emilio Estefan - the label could be a French music label.
So is it then a Heize Kpop song or what?

It's You (Ft. IU) - Sung Si Kyung Gaon #1
Love Story (Feat. IU) - Epik High Gaon #1
Soulmate (Ft. IU) - Zico Gaon #1
Sogyeokdong - Seo Taiji (he said that its success was due to IU)
Not Spring, Love, or Cherry Blossoms is High4 ft. IU
were major hits.
So it depends on the song and that is no different from she singing by herself.
If at all the only risk is that IU as the featured artist might overshadow the primary artist. That happened with High4, Fiestar etc.
But AKMU is more established, so don't think that will happen.
Anyway it won't be the title track.
